children will be sponsored by PTA, School Council, and Title 1 on Monday Nov.
9 from 6:30-7:30. an optional second component is a Book Swap. A notice is
being sent home to your child to explain the details.
Our school has adopted Pizza Hut's Book-It Program as our school wide reading
incentive this year. The children are very excited about the possibility of
earning an award certificate that entitles them to their own personal pizza.
For details, you can log on to www.bookitprogram.com for details and
additional parent information and activities.
Let's go readers.....readers let's go!!!!
We have arrived at the end of the month. The children must submit their
Book-It logs to verify that they have read the 300 minutes. We are tracking
the amount of minutes that each student is reading so that we can acknowledges
our "Top readers" as well. To earn a certificate the children must read a
minimum of 300 minutes for the
month of October.
We were fortunate that we had nice weather for our Halloween parade. Thank
you to the families that donated the treats and our Room Parents that made the
calls and helped at the parties.
This year we have a six day rotation schedule for Unified Arts. This schedule
is in the handbook. Mrs. Strasburger's class is split and her students go
with the other third grade classes. Schedules were sent home in their Homework
folders so if you misplace your child's schedule, we have additional copies
available. Please check this schedule daily so that your child will be
prepared especially for Physical Education. Please let us know if you need
another copy of the Unified Arts Rotation.
We would like to inform you about our homework practices and other
organizational procedures. The following is our usual homework schedule: The
children are expected to read for about 15 minutes and this can include a
story that you are reading to them as well. They will be given a spelling
list each week and they will be tested on these words on Fridays. In
addition, they will have some other assignment to do each night that is due
the next day unless it is noted differently on the Homework Log.
Please initial the Homework Log each night to verify that your child has
completed the homework. Since we ( Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Strasburger) do not
grade it ( we do check it), you may coach your child on how to do a
particular item. If you notice that your child is really struggling to
complete it, please inform us so that we may review or reteach this
particular skill.
The children have opportunity to earn a NO HOMEWORK PASS if they turn in
their homework on time and it is accurate. These passes are intended to be
used when you the parent feel it is appropriate. They cannot be used for
incomplete class work or projects. Please sign the pass and attach it to the
assignment to verify that you are aware that it is being used.
We have supplied the students with a Homework Folder that travels to and from
school each day. Daily homework, corrected work, and notices will be filed in
this folder. Notices with high priority will be in a special envelope called
the "Friday folder". This is an attempt to eliminate the "left behind"
notices that get lost at the bottom of backpacks.
