I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing vacation. I want to thank all
the families for helping their child prepare for the play, and for being a
wonderful audience. They did a terrific job, and I am very proud of all of
them.
During the month of January our class will learn about penguins and polar
bears. Did you know that the penguins and the polar bears have never met?
Many facts will be learned as we travel to opposite ends of the world and
visit the South Pole and the North Pole. The children will visit a wonderful
web site in the computer room to help them learn about these intriguing
animals and their habitats. This site is listed in our classroom web site
under links if you would like to visit it at home.
During math we will learn how to add and subtract double digit numbers with
and without regrouping. Please continue to study addition and subtraction
facts with your child. We will revisit graphs, patterns, word problems,
classifying and sorting data, as well as analog and digital times.
During language arts many fun and interesting stories will be read. The
skills we will be learning include sequencing, cause and effect,
comprehension strategies, and summarizing. During spelling we will continue
adding endings (ing, ed, es, s, er, est) to root/base words, and extend our
list of sight words. The rule we will be concentrating on for the week is
written at the top of the spelling lists.
