10/05/09 ***REMINDER QUARTER 1 ART SAMPLE DUE TOMORROW BY 7:45 AM TO BE FAIR TO ALL STUDENTS ABSENT STUDENTS MAY SUBMIT ART SAMPLES THROUGH EMAIL AS LONG AS THEY ARE SUBMITTED BY DEADLINE! Attention absent students: 6th grade- is currently working on new Advertisement project where they must create an advertisement for a product that has not been invented as of yet. Product must have a name and character, a price, a guarantee, features and benefits. Advertisement must be bold, colorful and simple, and must be accompaied by a slogan. Finished project will be painted brightly in neon paint and outlines in sharpie. 7th grade- is currently working on a "Picasso Painting". Project will consist of ten or more symbols overlapping that tell about themselves. End project will look abstract and painted in bright colors on 18"x24" paper. 8th grade- is currently working on Vincent Van Gogh paintings. Using a photo they will create a main focal point or subject matter and finish background Vincent Van Gogh style using rolling lines, swirls and swooshes, to create motion and movement. Background will consist of three or more cool colors or three or more warm colors! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Parents and / or guardians There is a couple of forms going home with students explaining my grading and class expectations from my students. One of these forms must come back signed and will count towards a homework assignment grade. Students will have until their following class to turn in and receive credit. Afterwards students are still expected to return form but will no longer get homework credit. *** ART SAMPLES DUE ON NOVEMBER 6, BY 7:45 am NO EXCEPTIONS *** Students will choose an art sample from their favorite famous artist, print it out and answer the appropriate questions for their grade level. Students will only get credit if a sample is provided on time by the due date and all questions are answered. It does not matter what size the sample is as long as it is on 8 1/2"x 11" paper and it can be in black and white. *** Students can choose artwork based on a selected artist for each grade level. Students have been given their choices in class, but here are their choices if for any reason they no longer have them... 6th grade Thomas Kinkade Akiane' Claude Monet Andy Warhol 7th grade Picasso Michael Angelo Vincent Van Gogh Leonardo Da Vinci Rembrandt 8th Grade M.C. Escher Georgia Okeefe Norman Rockwell Edvard Munch 6th grade -5 questions 7th grade - 10 questions 8th grade- 12 questions 6th grade I have posted my rubric on the FAQ page...please take a look at this I think this will be helpful to students who want to meet my class expectations! ********ART CLUB************ If your child is interested in joining the Art Club please stay tuned for upcoming information ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ART CLASS NEW DAILY ROTATION SCHEDULE (Students will have art during 1 of 2 smesters which will be either first half or second half of the year on a 3 day daily rotation). First Semester/ Second Semester 6th Grade- 3 day rotation 7th Grade- 3 day rotation 8th Grade- 3 day rotation *** EXPECTATIONS AND GRADING POLICY *** 50% of grade is based on projects such as project completion, following directions, neatness, creativity, and originality. 50% of grade is based on effort, class participation, time management, and coming to class prepared. Students will be given specific criteria for each individual project in class. Students will be given approximately 1 month to complete each project. They will be given opportunities to work on projects in class, during their study time, and also time at home. Due dates are subject to change depending on pace of each class. 8th Grade- 8th graders are expected to bring in the following: 1 of 2 art samples. One due at the end of each quarter. Students must choose an art sample from a favorite, famous artist, must be accompanied with 12 answered questions...those are: 1) Who is the artist? 2) What is the name of the painting? 3) What do you like about the painting? 4) What do you dislike about the painting? 5) How does the painting make you feel? 6) How does this painting relate to you and your life? 7) What story do you believe the artist is trying to tell? 8) What types of line can you find? 9) What are the main colors in the painting? 10) Did the artist use cool colors, warm colors, or both? 11) What mood was the artist trying to create? 12) What does this painting tell about the artist? 7th Grade- (1 0f 2) 1 art sample from their favorite artist, must be accompanied with 10 answered questions...those are: (and is worth a complete project grade- pass or fail) 1) Who is the artist? 2) What is the name of the painting? 3) What do you like about the painting? 4) What do you dislike about the painting? 5) How does the painting make you feel? 6) How does the painting relate to you and your life? 7) Did the artist choose cool colors or warm colors? 8) What kind of mood do you believe the artist was trying to create? 9) What things does this painting reveal about the artist? 10) What stands out most about this painting? 6th Grade- 6th graders are expected to bring in an art sample from their favorite artist, assignment is as follows: 1 art sample from their favorite artist, must be accompanied with 5 answered questions: 1) Who is the artist? 2) What is the name of the painting? 3) What do you like about the painting? 4) What do you dislike about the painting? 5) How does the painting make you feel? (Assignment is due on/or before November 6, 8am and is worth a complete project grade-pass or fail). ***************************************************************************** CHECK OUT SOME OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS, (These are artists that I really think students will really appreciate) *Akiane (A living 13 year old child prodigy) *Thomas Kinkade (Modern famous painter of light) *Norman Rockwell (Famous American painter/ illustrator...lots of humor) *M.C. Escher (Famous designer and illustrator of tessalations)
