Donations to our library are always appreciated.
Do you accept book donations?
Yes. We prefer hard cover copies over paperback as they last longer. At times we do accept paperbacks
but have been inundated with them recently. I announce in the newsletter whether or not we are
accepting them. We also ask that donations be in very good condition. Please do not donate ripped or
dirty items.
What else do you accept?
We like magazine subscriptions and video/audio (no cassettes as we no longer have players)
resources. It is best to talk to the librarian about the current need situation.
What happens if I donate money?
The librarian uses it to purchase what is most needed in the library at that time. An annual needs list
of materials is written up with specific categories. This can include but is not limited to certain genres,
reading levels, categories of interest, curriculum needs, as well as furniture and technology devices.
How do you decide what to keep?
Several criteria are used in in deciding to keep donations.
Condition (no writing, rips, stains etc)
Duplication (whether we have a copy or copies due to space limitations)
Is the resource antiquated
Curriculum ( this is utilized especially with non-fiction materials)
Interest level ( we generally do not carry books specifically written for preschool and/or high school)
What happens to the materials you choose not to accept?
If they are in poor condition I throw them away. If it is something I think will benefit a classroom, I
offer it to teachers. Otherwise, I bring the rest of the donations to the Manchester School District
librarians. They always appreciate our generous donations as their library funding is minimal and they
have a large population of ESL students.
Can I request my donations back if you choose not to accept them?
Yes. Please let me know when you donate that this is your preference.
Where can I drop off my items?
It is best to let me know beforehand and I can direct you where to bring them. If that is not possible,
the PES library.
