Special Services at Portsmouth Middle School


8th Grade

  • Mrs. Denning brings to the Special Services Department 11 years of experience as a resource room teacher. She has a Master's degree in education.and has been with the Portsmouth School District for the past 12 years. Mrs. Denning has  vast experience working with learning disabled and behaviorally challenged students.   • Ms. Wood brings to the Special Services Department years of experience as a resource teacher. She has a Master's degree in education with specialization in working with emotionally handicapped students. Mrs. Wood has extensive knowledge in behavior management, reading, and math.  Ms. Wood is currently a sixth grade case manager and resource room teacher.  She can be contacted at cwood@portsmouth.k12.nh.us
7th Grade

  • Mrs. Bouzakine joined the Special Services Team in Portsmouth in 2009. Mrs. Bouzakine has a Master's degree in education and 7 years of experience as a special educator. Mrs. Bouzakine has a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge working with learning disabled students and behaviorally challenged students. 6th Grade
  • Mrs. Jones brings to the Special Services Department years of experience as a resource room teacher over 25 years in Portsmouth community teaching behaviorally challenged and students with learning needs. Mrs. Jones has a Master's degree in education. She is an integral part of the 6th grade team to support students needs. She works closely with counselors, parent (s) to ensure best experience for transition to PMS from elementary school. Previously she was the KIDS Program teacher at New Franklin, Resource teacher and grade 2 teacher before joining PMS in1992!! She has extensive knowledge and experience working with learning disabled students, behaviorally challenged, and emotionally handicapped students. Alternative Learning Program (ALP)

Director Ms. Jeanne Loughan

  • Ms. Loughan , director of the Alternative Learning Program (ALP) has tremendous amount of knowledge, skill and expertise in working with children who have intellectual/cognitive challenges, physical and emotional challenges, and behavioral. The ALP Program is a regional program that is designed for the students who need intense case manage and a strong whole team approach. Students within this program require many accommodations and modifications daily. Ms. Loughan has worked for the Portsmouth School District for the last 37 years and she has a Master's in education. Kids in Difficult Situations (KIDS Program)

Director: Ms. Rebecca Tuttle,

  • Ms. Rebecca Tuttle is the program director for the KIDS Program. The KIDS Program is a regional program for behaviorally challenged and/or emotionally handicapped students. Our middle school behavioral program (grades 6, 7, 8). She has a Master's in Education for counseling as well as certification in special education and emotional disturbance. She is the director and case manager for students in the KIDS Program.   • Mr. Utter is the counselor for the KIDS Program(grades 6,7.8). Mr. Utter has a Master's degree in counseling and has years of experience working with families and children with behavioral and mental health issues. Special Services Coordinator for Portsmouth Middle School

Mr. Martell brings 27 years of experience working with children and families. He was , formally, the director of the KIDS Program and now is the coordinator for Portsmouth Middle school He has experience with intellectual/cognitive disabilities, and emotional/learning disabilities.
