December 21 We had a terrific Christmas party today, thanks to our room mothers, Mrs. Hurley and Mrs. Scarafile, as well as other helpful parents who came in to assist. There was plenty of great food and the trivia questions Mrs. Scarafile put together were a big hit! December 18 Our second spelling bee was given by Alexandra, and she did a very professional job, too. The winner was Madeline, second place was Garrett, and third place was Nicole. Great job to all of you! December 17 Check out the pictures of our Checkbook Challenge today. We learned a lot about keeping a checkbook, but had fun, too. December 15 Mr. Kew, Madeline's father, came in today to sing with us. With guitar in hand, he put us all in a holiday spirit. Thank you, Mr. Kew! December 1 Congratulations to Quinton, our November Student of the Month. Quinton was recognized for his honesty, hard work, and the respect he gives to his classmates, teachers, and staff in the school. November 18 As of today, more than half of the class has mastered their times tables in 2 seconds or less. October 30 Congratulations to Garrett, our October Student of the Month. Garrett was recognized for his ability to work hard, stay on task, and yet enjoy the funny things that happen around here each day. October 23 Our first class spelling bee was held today. October 2 Rock Across America was celebrated today with finished reports coming in, and a concert from our favorite rock groups: Fire in the Hole, starring Spencer, Phillip, and Sheldon, Shooting Stars, starring Nicole, Alexandra, Madeline, Hannah, and Melissa, Crossfire, starring Cam N., Quinton, Vincent, and Anthony, Lords of Rock, starring Ben, Garrett, Bowen, Devvin, and Jacob, and Fire Crackers, starringPatricia, Peyton, Noelle, and Cameron Our second grade book buddies from Mrs. Martell's class made up most of our audience, along with a few teachers. From the applause, it appears that all groups were a hit. October 2 Congratulations to our first classroom student of the month. Spencer was recognized for his hard work, kindness to all, and his positive attitude. We are so proud of you, Spencer! September 15 I would like to remind all of our parents that there will be an Open House tomorrow evening at 6:30 PM. I am eager to meet all of you. August 29 I went to get the mail this morning, and had a very unique post card from Thatcher, on a COCONUT! I hope you had a great time at Disney World, Thatcher! June 27 Today is my first day of vacation. Yaaay! I hope all my students have a wonderful and SUNNY vacation. Stay in touch. June 24 Our Parting Ceremony was held today, and the fifth graders did a tremendous job. Congratulations to all of you. In the afternoon, the fifth grade parents group put on a picnic, and it was fantastic in spite of the rain. Imagine an inflatable slide, a bouncy house, bead stringing, a photo booth, and all the food you could eat, all in the Smyth Road Gym! Thank you for all your hard work. It was a great day. June 18 Congratulations to former student, Lindsay Warren Bolduc and her husband, Jerry on the birth of their first child, Isabella Lynn who was born today. June 5 Our last Breakfast Club was held today with the following students attending: Sophia B., Lexi, Rebecca, Sean, Chad, Shayna, and Camlin. Congratulations to all of them. Sophia B. and Rebecca have passed in every assignment all year. Wow! May 21 Congratulations to Sophia C., Chad, Fiona, Liam, and Virginia for their participation in last night's science fair. Everyone who viewed the entries learned something, and your effort was impressive. May 20 Attention to all former Smyth Road students!!!!!! You are invited to participate in our end of the year show!!! Any former Smyth Road School student who wishes to participate in the final number, "We're All in This Together" should meet for a practice after school at Central High on June 10. The program will be held on June 11 in the evening. We hope to see you there. May 15 Congratulations never seem to end for Liam Colby and his fantastic DAR essay. He received word that his essay was chosen as the regional winner(that is all of New England and part of New York state). We couldn't be prouder! March 31 Mrs. Nancy-Ann Feren visited our class this afternoon to tell us about her trip to Antarctica, and share slides, clothing she brought, and mementos with us. We learned a lot about this part of the world. In addition, she told us about the early days of Smyth Road School, as she was in the first fourth grade class. Some things have changed a lot! Now Liam, Virginia, Rebecca, Sophia B., Camlin, Elisabel, and Shayna can name all the presidents in order. March 9 Liam was asked to read his award-winning essay for Mayor Guinta, School Superintendent Dr. Brennan, and the Manchester School Board. He gets better and better. Congratulations to our first two winners, Virginia and Rebecca! February 24 Bulletin! Bulletin! Bulletin!!!! Liam's essay was selected as the NH State Winner for the D.A.R. Very, very impressive! February 19 Congratulations to the Smyth Road Girls' Basketball team for winning the City Championship for the second year in a row. There was a lot of excitement at Beech Street School tonight. February 9 Liam's outstanding essay on the Gettysburg Address was selected as the winner by the Molly Stark Chapter of the D.A.R. In addition, Rebecca and Sophia were recently recognized for their achievement of passing in all assignments, AND on time for the first half of the year. December 22 Today was Ellis Island Day!!! Despite the delay in school opening, and thanks to the wonderful volunteers, it was a big success, everyone had a good time, and everyone made it into America. November 14 Members of the Breakfast Club who met today are Sophia B., Sophia C., Rebecca, Devyn, Virginia, Sean, and Chad. Congratulations to these hard workers. October 23 Students may qualify as Math Masters by correctly giving the answers to multiplication problems in two seconds or less using all of the flash cards with tables 1 through 12. Our current Math Masters are Sophia B., Rebecca, and Virginia. October 22 Sophia B. and Adriana were named as the essay winners for Red Ribbon Week from our class. They have been invited to read their essays at the assembly next week. Sean, Virginia, and Liam have been elected as our class representatives to the school student government group. October 8 Congratulations to the four Breakfast Club members: Sophia B., Sophia C., Rebecca, and Virginia. they have passed in all of their work since school began, and have made the honor roll every week. October 3 Music was our theme today as we began the day entertaining the school with our states and capitals song over the school intercom. The Rock Across America fianl concert was held in our class this afternoon with honored guests, Principal Miss Briggs, and Mrs. Martell and her second grade class. September 18 Open House was held tonight, and it was a pleasure meeting so many new and experienced parents. Groups spent time together to prepare for Rock Across America to be completed on October 3. September 1 To the students I will meet on September 3: I am anxiously awaiting Wednesday morning when we will first come together as a class. Great memories are ahead! To my last year's students: I just looked over the pictures from last year, especially the first week. My how you've grown! Have a wonderful sixth grade year. Remember, you are prepared for it all. Be confident, and enjoy! August 18 How are you doing on your List of Life Goals? At the end of July, Mr. Paige and I went to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, a goal on my list for a long time. To make it even better, Ryan Shaughnessy, one of my former students was on my first flight. Check out our picture in the photos section.
