The first bell rings at 8:20 a.m. and the late bell rings at 8:35 a.m. You must be in class, not just in the building to be counted "on- time." On Tuesday mornings there is only one bell at 8:35 a.m.. If you come in anytime after this bell you will be marked tardy. What are the specials in second grade? We have the same specials in 2nd grade that you had in 1st grade: P.E., Music, Art, Library, and Health. Our Specials are Monday - Friday from 10:55a.m. until 11:40a.m. Do we write in cursive in 2nd grade? Will be answered soon Will there be homework in second grade? Yes, you will have homework most nights. Any unfinished classwork will also be considered homework unless Mrs. Chase specifically says it's not. When is my homework and/ or unfinished classwork due? Homework is due first thing in the morning. As you're unpacking your school bag you should immediately put all homework in the "Homework" bin. Classwork that was completed as homework should be placed in the appropriate subject bin. Where should I pass in my homework and other class assignments? All completed classwork should be places in the appropriate subject bin. Homework should be placed in the "Homework" bin first thing in the morning. Classwork that was completed as homework should be placed in the appropriate subject bin. What if I forget my homework at home? If you forget your homework at home you will re-do it during recess. You will not be allowed to call home and have someone bring it in for you. NO EXCEPTIONS! What if I lost or did not do my homework? If you lost or did not do your homework you will do it during recess. NO EXCEPTIONS! What is a homework pass and how do I use it? Occasionally in class you may have a chance to earn a homework pass. At this time homework passes can only be used for spelling homework and may not be used on unfinished classwork. **To use a homework pass you should write the name of the assignment the pass is being used for on the back of the pass and place it in the "Homework" bin the morning the assignment is due. Early or late passes will not be accepted or counted. Do not lose your homework pass. You will not get a replacement and will be responsible for the assignment as well. What should I put as a header on my assignments? All assignments should have the following information at the top: Your Name (first and Last), Date, and Student Number. Example: Melissa Chase #12 8/10/07 What if I forget to put my name on my paper? If you forget to put your name on your paper more than 3 times your paper will be recycled and you will have to make up the assignment, usually during recess. As a second grader you should make sure the first thing you do when you start a new assignment or paper is put your name on your paper at the top or where it is asked for. When do we take our spelling pre-test? For the start of second grade I have decided that we will not have a weekly spelling pre-test. After Christmas we may begin having our spelling pre-tests on Monday or Tuesday mornings. I like give the pre-tests at the start of the week so you will know which words you really need to be sure and study. FLIP A CARD Everyone has a pocket containing 4 colored cards: 1 green, 1 yellow, 1 orange, and 1 red. Green = Great, Yellow = Warning, Orange = Loss of 1 Recess, Red = Loss of 2 Recesses or Inability to Attend a Fun Activity Such as an Assembly (if there is one during that week), as well as a note home written by you, or a phone call home, from Mrs. Chase explaining why you have lost your recesses or assembly. Everyone starts the week with a green card in the front of his or her pocket. When you are not following the rules you will be asked to flip- a- card, which means that you will have to move the green card to the back of the cards revealing a yellow card which is a warning. If you continue to not follow the rules you will be asked to flip another card, which means that you will have to move the yellow card to the back of the cards revealing an orange card which is the loss of 1 recess. If poor behavior continues you will again be asked to flip another card, which means that you will have to move the orange card to the back of the cards revealing a red card which is the loss of 2 recesses or the inability to attend a fun activity such as an assembly (if there is one during that week), as well as a note home written by you, which will need to be signed by a parent and brought back the very next day, explaining why you have flipped to a red card and have lost your recesses or assembly. Mrs. Chase my also decide to call home and speak with your parents or guardian about your behavior. In most cases after you have reached a red card for the week you will go back to green if there is no more poor behavior. At the end of the week anyone who has not flipped a card at all and has stayed with a green card at the front of his or her pocket for the entire week (Monday Friday) will receive a reward. Rewards may include having lunch with Mrs. Chase, stickers, pencils, occasionally a free homework pass, etc., etc. Everyone returns to a green card on Monday morning to start the week with a clean slate. Anyone who has not flipped a card at all for 1 month will be invited to come in early one morning to have breakfast with Mrs. Chase. The above rewards are only for those who have not flipped any cards for any reason whatsoever. They are not for students who have flipped cards and then returned to green to start over. You may be able to flip back to green or a previous color if your behavior improves, but you will no longer be able to receive a reward for that week.
