Weekly Newsletter

Hello,

We were very busy all week with Phonics, Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop and Math. Students
have really done a nice job of moving through their Literacy Centers each week, too.

This week we'll move onto Unit 2 in our EveryDay Math series. Students seem to be catching on to
new concepts nicely. They are also enjoying playing some of the math games we've learned so far.

This week in Phonics, I will introduce the short i sound. Be sure to practice the word wall
words, along with the word family pattern words as often as possible.

On Tuesday, we will begin the Instant Words Program. You can expect your child to bring home a
list of words to be studied each week. Students should practice reading these words. I do not
expect them to know how to spell them, yet!!

Library books should be returned every Friday!!! When a child does not return their book they
are unable to check out a new one...please help your child with this responsibility!

If you have not sent in your party money, I would appreciate it as soon as possible. Thanks for
your cooperation. Mrs. Michalik will be contacting some of you to help out in some way for our
Halloween party on October 31st.

We enjoyed helping to take part in a Guinness Book of Records read-a-thon on Thursday. We
ready "Corduroy" and all of our teddy bears enjoyed spending the day in First Grade.

Please be sure to return Reading Logs each Monday in your child's folder.

Mrs. Michalik was our "Mystery Reader" on Wednesday afternoon. I wonder who it will be this week?

Many thanks to all of you for sending in classroom supplies. I really do appreciate it.

It is most helpful if you label your child's belongings. Things can get mixed up quite easily in
here!

Just a reminder to send in your receipts from Shaw's... the Windham Helping Hands Organization
gets a percentage of the total. Last year Helping Hands received $8,000.00 from these receipts.
Just send them in with your child and we'll make sure they get where they need to go! This
organization does a wonderful job of supporting the families in Windham.

Have a nice weekend. Temperatures are dipping...yikes!

Regards,
Jeanne Guessetto
