What¡¦s New?
Mrs. Marinelli's First Grade Family
September 2nd-5th , 2008
Hello everybody!
Well! First grade is turning out to be a blast! We are having so much fun! Is it
possible that Mrs. Marinelli is already falling in love with her class? YES! :)
YES! :) YES! :) YES!:)
We have been so busy continuing to form our first grade community and family. We have
been practicing greeting each other, sharing supplies, and playing cooperative games! We
played some fun, cooperative games called:
"Octopus¡¨ and "Captain is Coming¡¨! We also have been working in small groups and learning
how
to make eye contact with our friends too.
We read some super books this week! Did you know that ¡§good readers¡¨ handle books
with
care? We do! We had a chance to browse some books in baskets and we practiced handling our
books with care! We read ¡§Brown Bear What Do You See?¡¨ and we made our own class book!
We read ¡§Today I feel Silly¡¨ and this gave us a chance to share some of our moods and we made
another class book!
We enjoyed some stories by Kevin Henkes this week too! Chrysanthemum, Owen, and
Wemberly Worried. We celebrated and sang about our names too! We sang a great song about the
vowels and we found all the vowels in our names and put stars above them on our nametags. We
discussed things that we might be worried about- just like Wemberly and we worked on work
stations where we got to draw and write about real and not so real worries. That seemed to put
some of us at ease to know that sometimes we all worry.
We have been having a ball play ¡§Number Line Squeeze¡¨ and on Friday we worked in
partners and played ¡§Monster Line Squeeze¡¨. You would have been so proud of how all of your
cuties worked in small groups and with a partner! I am!
ASK YOUR CUTIE¡K
What is quiet time?
What is a ¡§To Do¡¨ folder?
What do you do at Morning Meeting?
What is a B.E.A.R. Binder? (look for them to come home to sleep over for the weekend)
Sing, read, and enjoy some wonderful songs, poems and chants each weekend while you practice
fluency, comprehension, word recognition and reading with expression with your adorable first
grader! Wow! And you thought it was just a binder with cute songs and poems! ļ
If you have not sent in a binder for your child please do so as soon as you can.
B.E.A.R. (Be Excited About Reading)Binders go home
every Friday and must come back every Monday. They will grow and you and your child will grow
to love them as well! You might want to make sure that your child¡¦s binder is at least 2
inches wide because by the end of the year they get very thick and heavy!
Thank you again for all the wonderful supplies for our class!
We really do appreciate them!
As for me, I am sad that my oldest is away and I miss her. My pups decided to wake up
at 4am all week and I have not had a hard time falling asleep all week! :)
Have a super weekend!
Love a very happy teacher,
Mrs. Marinelli :)
