Golden Brook School is entering an exciting new year! We are
welcoming Deb Armfield as our new principal, and I am entering my eleventh
year as a first grade teacher. I have a Master of Education degree from the
University of New England, and my undergraduate work was completed at the
University of Bridgeport.
My family and I live in Windham. My children, Christine, Jennifer,
and Philip attended Windham schools when they were young. I have been in
your position! Before I know it my grandson will be attending GBS!
Mrs. Landry's class is our partner class and we are looking
forward to sharing many educational activities this year.
In addition to teaching, I am also Co-Team Leader of the first grade
team. Mrs. Cove and I share this responsibility. Mentoring teachers new to
GBS is another duty I perform throughout the year.
I am thrilled to work with such a wonderful group of creative,
enthusiastic teachers. Our instuction is founded in the latest research.
We thank our administration, and community for supporting us in our
endeavors. The success of this collaboration caused us to be named the 2005
Elementary School of Excellence in the State of New Hampshire!
My mission in education is to educate the total person. To build a
relationship with each child which includes trust, confidence, and respect.
I will empower each child to learn with the self-motivation to explore, and
discover. All students will be problem solvers, and independent thinkers.
They will work in a cooperative atmosphere, taking responsibility for
helping one another to learn. They will be a community of workers where
everyone is simultaneously a teacher, and a learner.
I will build each child’s self-esteem, and instill a “can do”
attitude. I will set daily and long-term goals for my students, and
myself. School will be a safe place for them to learn, and grow.
The opportunity is here for children to reach their full potential.
I will empower them with confidence, and the necessary tools to learn. I
will help them to build a strong relationship between home, school, and
community. I will encourage them to do their best. For both teachers and
students, personal mastery is a journey, not an end or a goal(Dr. Art Costa,
2000).
