How can parents or guardians contact Miss Bubnis?
Parents or guardians can call the office and leave a message on my voice
mail, which I check at the beginning and end of each day. You can send in
a note with your child or write a note in his or her agenda. (Please remind
them to show it to me.) You can email me by using the link found on this
website. Whichever way you choose, I will respond as soon as possible.
--------------------------------------
What if I forget my Reading Log in school or lose it?
You should still read! You can record your "thinking" on a piece of paper
and when you bring it to school you can copy it onto your log or the new log
I give you. Your homework star will not be taken down if you do this, but if
you don't do anything your star will come down.
--------------------------------------
What if I forget my Writer's Notebook?
You should still write! Please write your entry on a piece of paper and
attach it to your notebook when you get to school. Your homework star will
not be taken down if you do this, but if you don't do anything your star
will
come down.
--------------------------------------
How much should I read each night?
As much as you want! ...But you are expected to read at least 20 minutes
each night. Over the weekend, you should read a total of 60 minutes, split
up
however you want over the three nights (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).
--------------------------------------
How many entries/nights do I have to write in my Writer's Notebook?
Every student must write three nights in their Writer's Notebook (Monday
through Thursday). The day that your Writer's Notebook is handed in you will
not write. I expect you to write for at least 10 minutes each night, but I
do not count the number of entries you have. Please remember to label your
writing with the date and HW for homework.
--------------------------------------
What is a Homework Pass? How do I get one? How can I use it?
Each student in 4A and 4B has a star hanging on the bulletin board in the
front of the classroom. The star will remain up unless an ILA homework
assignment is not completed or has been forgotten. After two weeks, any
students who still have their star up will receive a Homework Pass. A
Homework Pass may be used for any ONE ILA homework assignment (for example,
one night's reading log, one night's Writer's Notebook entry, etc.).
Students may NOT use a Homework Pass on their Reader's Notebook letter,
since this letter should be completed over several days. To use a Homework
Pass, please attach the yellow pass to the assignment BEFORE coming to
class. It is suggested that students not use their Homework Passes
immediately, but instead save them for a night when they have a lot of
homework or a busy schedule (sports, birthdays, emergencies, sickness, etc.)

Can I bring in a treat to celebrate my birthday? What's a good treat to bring?
Yes! In fourth and fifth grade we still loved to celebrate birthdays!
Mrs. Miller has asked all parents to please follow the district guidelines
when they send in birthday treats. No item that has sugar as the first
ingredient or candy should be sent into the school for any reason. If
parents are not sure and also to save time, they can purchase treats through
the child nutrition deparatment. They can e-mail them at
childnutrition@ebnet.org or call at 732-613-6717. Mrs. Miller appreciates
everyone's cooperation. As a district, we are trying to help students make
more nutritious food choices throughout the day. Please also make sure to
send in napkins and any other materials needed to eat the snack which is
sent in. So far everyone has been great with remembering this. (THANK YOU!)
