Mrs. Chartoff & Ms. Pari's Second Grade

Reading at Home

All students must read daily at their reading level or below. Books that are
too hard will frustrate the children and not give them enough practice to
increase their reading skills. It is important for parents to read nightly to
their children. It truly makes a difference in the development of the child's
reading and writing skills.

Second Graders should read daily for at least 15 minutes outside of
school. This may include reading books, magazines, recipes, stories on the
web etc... As your child develops into a fluent reader, one who understands
and remembers what they have read, you may spend less time reading with your
child. However, it is very important that you talk with them to monitor their
comprehension. Tips for how to talk about books and retell stories can be
found in the Back to School Packet given at Back to School Night.
