| Homework assignments are designed to extend work in the classroom.
Practicing skills at home is essential to a child's academic success. Please
take the time to work with your child, who needs your support.
Expect homework Monday-Thursday. Spelling homework is given Monday-
Wednesday. An ILA grammar sheet or activity will be given on Thursdays.
Usually we will also have a Math Home Link or Math Boxes. Math addition and
subtraction facts should be memorized. Mad Minutes will be given every now
and then to test for fact power. Occasionally, Social Studies and Health
homework will be assigned. Please be sure to check the assignment sheet and
also look in the red folder for any homework sheets. INITIALLY I WILL TYPE
MOST HOMEWORK ON THE ASSIGNMENT SHEET, LATER STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR COPYING IT FROM THE BOARD. If your child doesn't copy it, call a friend
(once or twice) or just write a note to me and I will make sure it is in
their folder for the student to complete it the next night.
Please do not wait to reach out to me if your child is having any trouble
with homework. Let me know so I can help before the problem gets out of
hand.
I understand that things come up, if you child needs an extra night to
complete an assignment just write me a note. It is ok, I just need to know
you know your child still needs to do an assignment.
Students will be encouraged to take classroom reading books home to reread.
Students are always welcome to take home any of the books we have in our
independent reading baskets, please return them the next day.
I suggest to children to keep a friends phone number handy in case they ever
need to phone someone for help.
HOME JOURNAL WILL NOT BEGIN UNTIL AFTER BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT --WATCH
ASSIGNMENT SHEET:
Students are responsible for completing a written journal assignment once
a week in their Home Reading and Writing Journal. No more than 30 minutes
total writing time should be spent a week. About 15 minutes 2 nights is all
children need to spend on this assignment. If an entry is still a work in
progress, then the child may continue it the following week.
