If your child participates in the Basic Skills ILA
Program they will be spending ½ hour with me everyday. I’d like to take this
opportunity to tell you a few things about myself, both personally and
professionally.
I have been a teacher in this school for six years and taught fourth grade
previously in Connecticut for nine years. I also spent nine years as a
financial analyst for a computer company and it was during that time that I
realized I also have a passion for math. Once I began my family, I chose a
different path and opened my own business. It was there that I could
combine my business sense, math interest and interpersonal skills to run a
successful business. While I owned the business, I re-entered the world of
teaching as a home instructor. It was while working as a home instructor
that I knew I would soon return to the classroom. I’m glad I did.
I love my job! I have a wonderful situation, as I work closely with my
students in small group settings. I also have the availability to plan
lessons conjuctively with their home room teachers.

My mission is to prepare students to embrace reading and writing and to
provide the skills for them to be life-long readers and writers. I will
encourage my students to employ concrete reading strategies as tools to self-
monitor the reading process. I will hold them responsible to monitor their
work.
