Homework assignments are designed to reinforce and extend classroom
learning.
All homework assignments are written, by the children, in their school
agendas.
Practicing skills at home is essential to a child's academic success. Please
take the time to work with your child and monitor his or her daily, as well
as, long-term assignments and test preparation.
Homework is assigned Monday through Friday. New spelling and word wall
words are given on Mondays. Spelling tests and repair shop quizzes are
given on Fridays. Math homework is usually assigned on a nightly basis.
Although the answers to the Math Home Links are provided in the Parent
Letter with each unit, this should serve as a guide for you to help your
child. Please do not use the answers to help your child complete his or her
work because it will not help me assess what they need to work on further in
class.
Reader's and Writer's Notebooks will be worked on in school and on a nightly
basis. A schedule with be forthcoming. Please adhere to the notebook
schedule and help your child to manage their time wisely. There is no
reason why they should not be able to complete their assignments in the
given time. Readers and Writers notebook assignments MAY NOT BE MADE UP.
IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT HAND IN THEIR ASSIGNMENT ON THEIR DUE DAY, THEY WILL
RECEIVE A FAILING GRADE.
Occasionally, Social Studies and Health homework will be assigned. Please be
sure that all activity pages are returned to school the next day unless
indicated otherwise. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL HAVE 10 POINTS DEDUCTED EACH DAY.
Students are encouraged to read on a nightly basis. Reading logs will come
home every Friday. Reading logs MUST BE RETURNED ON A DAILY BASIS IN ORDER
FOR YOUR CHILD TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR IT. READING LOGS MUST BE SIGNED BY A
PARENT ON FRIDAY TO VERIFY THE ACCURACY OF THE LOG. Once your child has
turned in an accurate log for four consecutive weeks, he or she will receive
a homework pass. Homework passes CANNOT be used in place of a READER'S or
WRITER'S Notebook assignment. They are welcome to take home their
independent reading books as long as they remember to return them to school
the next day.
Tests will be given in math, social studies, and health following each
unit. I usually give one week notice, along with sending home a study
guide (most of the time, although not required). Signed study guides should
not be returned until
the day of the test. Science assessments are also given following various
units, but the preparation is all based on classwork.
