Fifth Grade Field Trip This Week!
On Friday, May 25, the fifth graders will visit the Ellis Island/Liberty Island with the 2nd grade classes. We are very excited to see first-hand the entry point for so many people who immigrated to the United States. Fifth grade is beginning to study U.S. immigration this week and will close out the year learning about the struggles and successes of immigrants to this country. For more information about Ellis Island, click here:

SIGN UP TODAY! Website offers student involvement and learning using games!
In some of the classes we have discovered the online community at
icivics.
Using games and interactive animated movies, students learn more about various aspects of U.S. government and civic action. For starters, I have activated a lesson relating to Supreme Court decision making that kids can do over the break. Students are encouraged to set up an account
(with parent permission/assistance since the accounts require an email address).
Students play games to collect points, and with those points they can "spend" them by voting for various project proposals that are posted to icivics.org. Every three months the site organizers award the most voted project with an award. More information can be obtained by clicking on the "Impact" tab at the top.
Please contact me with any comments, concerns, or questions.

Reminder: LearnTCI student access
Student access for the history textbooks has arrived! In class this week I will guide the students through the process of setting up their individual accounts. Once setup, each student will be able to access the reading material from any computer via the website:
www.learnTCI.com
Also, there are reading challenges that can be completed for many of the chapters that will help reinforce some of the information learned in class.
CDS History Google Docs Account
In an effort to make writing papers, creating presentations, and more efficient and accessible, I've created a Google account for all history classes. This will allow students to create, share, and transport documents between school and home (whether working in groups or individually). Also, if students don't have access to Microsoft Office, Google Docs allows them to create compatible files for free (Word, Powerpoint, etc). The account is public (for the classes...not the general public), and the login and password will be given to students in class.
Automatically clean input to optimize for the web.
Or, would you like to view and optionally restore one of these previous versions?
