What We Are Doing

Dear Parents,

I am sure you were as proud of the students as I was for their stellar performance in Sing Me a Song on Thursday. It was to witness  the excitement the rehearsals and props generated. I loved seeing the communion dresses and the other costume.

Language Arts

In writing, the students concentrated their efforts in writing descriptive paragraphs. They needed to embrace the elements of writing that they have learned throughout the year. This week’s spelling focused on irregular past tense verb spellings. The students created books using the spelling verbs to describe events that occurred in the present and past.

Math

The students revisited long division using ten as a divisor. Using addition and subtraction, they then added and subtracted fractions with like denominators. They changed the improper fraction sums to mixed numbers when required. As the students identified the distributive property, they evaluated various formulas to calculate for perimeter and area of squares and rectangles.

Social Studies /Science

This week the students examined what features makes Alaska and Hawaii very different from the other states studied. These states possess varied landforms and climates ranging from volcanoes and glaciers, which make them unique. With partners, they researched facts on the computer and prepared travel brochures.

Warm regards,

Mrs. McMahon
