DAILY SNACK
Many Chittick students suffer from severe and potentially life-threatening
allergies to peanuts and tree nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, filberts,
cashews, etc.). In some cases, a reaction will occur without the student
even eating the product.
In response to the seriousness of the circumstances, we ask that you please
do not send in any snack to be consumed in the classroom that contains
PEANUTS OR TREE NUTS.
Please read food labels carefully. Sometimes the ingredients are not clearly
listed. Many food item labels indicate the item may contain traces of
peanuts or tree nuts. If you are in doubt, you may send the food item label
to the school nurse for review.
LUNCH
Due to the fact that there is a specially designated PEANUT-FREE table
available for allergic students in the lunchroom, your child may bring in
lunch items that contain peanuts or tree nuts (such as a peanut butter
sandwich).
BIRTHDAY TREATS & OTHER SPECIAL CELEBRATIONS
The East Brunswick School District is committed to providing students with
healthy and nutritious foods. In an effort to promote student health and
well-being, the district has adopted guidelines for the types of foods that
may be given out during the school day.
If you would like to send in a special birthday snack for the class, please
coordinate this with the classroom teacher and be guided by the nutritional
and allergy information the teacher shares with you.
The Child Nutrition Department will be providing a service to parents by
offering various food items for birthday celebrations for a nominal fee.
Parents may contact the Child Nutrition Department at (732) 613-6719 to
purchase appropriate and approved food items.
If you would like to celebrate with nonfood items, stickers, pencils, small
erasers, and/or bookmarks may be brought to school and handed out to
classmates. Your child may pass these out to his/her friends to use
throughout the year.
If you are interested in donating a book in your child's name in honor of
his/her birthday, please inform the classroom teacher.
CLUBS
School clubs and activities are an integral part of the educational program
at Chittick Elementary School. There are many clubs available to students of
each grade level. To see a short description of a specific club, please
visit the Chittick School Website.
BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE
The East Brunswick Public School District’s Community Programs Department
offers quality early morning and after school care to children of working
parents.
The Early Morning Program (EMP) is for children in the AM kindergarten
through grade five. Parents may bring their children to their home school as
early as 7:00 AM. On days when there is a delayed opening, children may be
dropped off at 9:30 AM.
After School Kids (ASK) is for children in the PM kindergarten through grade
five. The program begins at the close of the school day and ends with parent
pick-up at 6:00 PM at the home school.
These are fee-based programs with trained staff members. Discipline
procedures, consistent with those of the home school, are followed.
Registration forms may be downloaded by going to the Community Programs link
at www.ebnet.org or from the main office at the participating school. For
additional information about school-aged child care call the Community
Programs Department at 732-613-6980.
