From Mrs. Mazza: I just got this e-mail today, March 24th:

Dear NJAGC Parents and Educators,

Join us on Saturday morning, March 29, 2008 for an informative Open House
program for the Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG) at Stuart Country
Day School in Princeton.

There will be two presentations. The first presentation will share
information regarding the summer day program for gifted and talented
students in grades K-6 at Stuart, Moorestown Friends School and Bryn Mawr
College. The second program will share information about a new Saturday
morning program at Stuart that will begin on April 5 and run for 6
Saturdays from 9:00-noon for grades 1-6. Stay for both or pick the one that
interests you more.

11:00 Stuart Saturday Program presentation

Day programs: SIG provides gifted students in grades K-6 with a unique
academic learning experience. The program is designed to challenge
students & provide them with an opportunity to interact with like-minded
peers. Students select 3 courses to create a personalized schedule.
Because of the small class size, low teacher-student ratio, & the presence
of a program assistant in every class, SIG is able to tailor programs to
each child.

Please see our website _www.giftedstudy.com_(http://www.giftedstudy.com/)
for more information or call (866)303-4744.

Saturday programs: The Saturday program is set up in a problem-based
learning format where students in grades 1-6 encounter a problem scenario
and must research, problem solve, and create solutions to the problem,
while learning and answering their questions along the way.

The topic for grades 1 and 2 is “Weather Woes: One Town’s Dreaded Drought”.
Grades 3 and 4 will be “Digging into Archaeology” and grades 5 and 6 will
learn about microbiology and immunology in “Outbreak at Stake”.

Please contact Susan Superson at
_ssuperson@giftedstudy.com_ (mailto:ssuperson@giftedstudy.com) or call her
at (203) 399-5545 for more information or to request a brochure.

Learn what the Summer Institute for the Gifted can offer gifted elementary
students. Meet with staff and take a tour of the campus. Reservations are
required. Refreshments are served and students can enjoy a science workshop
while they are they. There is no charge. Please call (866)303-4744 to
reserve your place.

For Third Grade TAG, our theme for the year is "Mystery". We'll solve court
cases and then write our own. We will also meet the challenge of
solving "Challenge Boxes" throughout the year. Look for a box to come home
with your child sometime in the next few weeks.

In Fourth Grade TAG, have choosen our own topics to investigate on the
Web, and then we are using HyperStudio to display the results. Students are
learning about any topic of their choosing.

We have developed a working knowledge of HyperStudio, a multi-media software
package that allows students to draw and to save graphics and sound files
from the Internet. We are using HyperStudio to present the results of
Internet-based research.

In Fifth Grade TAG, for half the year, we found out about how to begin a
small business. In the second half of the year, we are learning how to make
money in the stock market!

In Fifth Grade Verbal, we are reading and writing our own short stories.
We are also learning how to be storytellers in the Appalachian Mountain
tradition.
