Dear Parents and Guardians:
Hello and welcome to Third Grade! My name is Mrs. Vicki Wilkins and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Mrs. Stacey Radtke and myself as your child’s teachers this year and familiarize you with some classroom routines:
· Homework: Your child will be given occasional homework to be completed at home and handed in the next day (unless otherwise noted in the agenda book). Grading is as follows: a check-plus is equivalent to an A; a check to a B, a check-minus to a C and no homework is a 0. You do not need to supervise homework, as your child should be able to complete it by him/herself. If your child has difficulty completing homework, a quick note by you explaining the difficulty will be accepted and your child will have the opportunity to review it with the class the next school day. Homework should be reinforcing the concepts learned in class; not long and tedious. Homework will only be accepted up to 2 days late; consequently, each day a letter grade is deducted. After 3 days it will be counted as a 0.
· Grading: Grading for your child includes homework, class work, quizzes/tests and participation/cooperation. Such consideration gives your child a more accurate and well-rounded grade in the subject.
· Healthy Snack: There will be a short time set aside each day for children to have a small working snack in class. Please be aware that only healthy snacks will be permitted, such as fruit, yogurt, crackers, etc. Please do not send in snacks filled with sugar and absolutely no candy or soda during this time.
· Agenda Books and Homework Folders: Students will be receiving Chittick School Agenda Books on the first day of school. Your child will be given a time each day to copy homework assignments and reminders off the board. It is important that these agenda books are read and signed each night. Please also check for the corresponding assignment in the homework folder and sign off in the agenda book after you see assignments are completed. In addition, read through all notices that are sent home in the folder from school.
· Friday Forms: On most Fridays, your child will receive a small, half-sheet Friday form that indicates his/her progress during the week. Please look for these forms on Fridays (unless otherwise noted in the agenda book) and sign and return them for Monday.
· Specials: Each semester these will vary. The first quarter will be as follows:
Monday: Music
Tuesday: Gym (**Wear sneakers)
Wednesday: Music
Thursday: Art
Friday: Library & Gym (**Return library books and wear
sneakers**)
· Birthdays: You are welcome to send a treat in for the class on your child’s birthday. Treats must be store bought or purchased through the district program. Any child with a summer birthday can choose when he or she would like to celebrate. Please let us know in advance if you choose to celebrate a summer birthday during the year.
· Behavior: Please reinforce proper school behavior. Positive behavior is reinforced in school as well as repeated inappropriate behavior will result in missing recess, parent contact, or a visit to the principal.
We are looking forward to working with your child. If you have any questions, please call Chittick School at (732) 613.6830 or e-mail us at: vwilkins@ebnet.org or sradtke@ebnet.org. You can also check our website at: Teacherweb.com/NJ/ChittickElementary/MrsWilkins/Index.html
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Vicki Wilkins Mrs. Stacey Radtke
