How is my grade determined?

The Math Department Policy is as follows:
75% tests and quizzes and 25% performance assessments

Performance assessments are informal assessments such as homework checks, partner quizzes,
in-class assignments, exit cards, etc.

Here are some sample grades:
1. Test: 42 out of 50
2. Quiz: 19 out of 25
3. Homework: 7 out of 8
4. Partner Quiz: 22 out of 25

The grade will be computed like this:
Major: 42+19=61 out of 50+25=75 61 out of 75 = 81% * 75 = 61
Perf: 7+22=29 out of 8+25=33 29 out of 33 = 88% * 25 = 22

Final Grade = 61+22= 83 B

Where can I find my homework assignment?

Homework is written on the board everyday. Copy it as soon as you get to your desk. (Make sure
you copy the correct class!)

Homework will also be listed on this website, but there is no guarantee it will be fully up-to-
date.
Your best bet is to copy it from the board everyday.

What if I miss a homework assignment?

If you miss a homework assignment because of an absence, school policy states that the number
of days you have to make it up is the same as the number of days you were absent. So, if you
were absent for 2 days in a row, and missed 2 HW assignments, you have 2 days to make them
up.

If you miss a homework assignment and you were not absent, I will accept it the next day for
half-credit.

For any missed assignment, it is your responsibility to show me the make-up work--I will not
ask for it.

Do I need a graphing calculator?

No. You are not required to have a graphing calculator. However, it is strongly recommended that
you have a scientific calculator such as the TI-30. (Any calculator labeled "scientific" is fine.)

When can I get extra help?

I am available for after school help on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please let me know if you plan
on coming.

Also, Mr. Lell is available Mon-Fri in room 803 to help any student with math.

Please don't wait until the day before a test or quiz to ask for help.

What are D-Cards?

D-Cards are discipline cards. You will be given 2 cards to keep in your notebook at all times. For
certain offenses, I will take a card from you. If you do not have any cards to turn in, you will be
assigned a detention. That means every third offense will result in a detention.
