Poetry Contest

1. CREATIVE COMMUNICATION PRESENTS...A CELEBRATION OF YOUNG POETS POETRY 
CONTEST!  
Become a published poet and win cash prizes!

Enter your poem in the grades 7-9 division. Here are the requirements:
   -Poem must be the poet's ORIGINAL work and be in English.
   -21 line maximum poem length (do not go over 21 lines!)
   -There will be 10 winners in each division.

Please submit poem with:
   -Poem's title
   -Poet's name (clearly printed)
   -Current grade (8th)
   -Home address (optional)
   -School name (Churchill Junior High School) 
   -School address (18 Norton Rd.  East Brunswick, NJ 08816)
   -Teacher's name (Ms. Kiefer)

Enter your poem in one of the following ways:
   -Enter it online at:   www.poeticpower.com
        OR
   -Mail entries to:
       Poetry Contest

Contest deadlines:
   *Students can enter one original poem for each contest.
       -Spring Contest - Postmarked by Apr. 7, 2009
       -Summer Contest - postmarked by Aug 18, 2009
       -Fall Contest - postmarked by Dec. 3, 2009


*If you would like to submit a poem, make sure to follow all of the above 
directions.   Feel free to arrange a day to meet with me after school if you 
would like some teacher feedback before submitting your poem!

You can also enter an ESSAY CONTEST through this company.
   -essays can be no longer than 250 words
   -the number of words must be printed at the bottom of the page
   -send it to the same website or mailing address that is listed above.

Essay DEADLINES:
Spring Contest - postmarked by July 15, 2009
Fall Contest - postmarked by Oct. 15, 2009

(Students can only submit one entry for each contest.)



2. The Power of Poetry Contest is a great way to finish out the school year 
and have students enjoy the summer with new laptops! 

Entering is easy. Here’s what students need to do:  

Log on to scholastic.com/haiku. 
Pick a theme—nature, technology, sports/hobbies, dreams for the future—and 
write a haiku about it. 
Complete the entry form and submit the haiku online by June 30th, 2009.
Students have a CHANCE TO WIN a brand-new HP Pavilion laptop computer!
