Test Preparation
Complete for Monday - #1-5. #5 is an important question in your prep
Text pages 145-157, 174-186
Directions: Work individually. You need not copy the question. Answer in
complete sentences.
1. Explain the meaning of the Preamble to the Constitution by rewriting it
in your own words. Feel free to use a writing style less formal than the
original.
2. Read over in the text about the Virginia Plan. How was this plan similar
to the final Constitution? Were there any differences?
3. Review the three compromises we covered from the Constitutional
Convention.
Explain whether these compromises were fair? Minimum 8 sentences. Include a
topic and closing sentence.
4. In addition to the 3/5 clause, the Constitution also included a clause
which would allow for 20 more years the capture and transport of African
slaves to America(known as the slave trade). Also included was a fugitive
slave clause which stated that any slave that ran away to another state had
to be returned.
Was there a better way the delegates could have handled the slavery issue and
kept the states united?
5. Think: Look over your spider web diagram of the Articles of
Confederation in your notebook. Look over information in your text and
notebook. Try to think of differences between the Articles and the new
Constitution. Look at the problems the nation faced. Could the new
Constitution help solve those problems?
Write: Contrast the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.
Develop a topic sentence. Then explain 4 differences between the two plans
of government. Be sure not to just list the changes. Include a closing
sentence.
10 sentences minimum.
