Editorial Prompt for this month (for the January edition of the Home News
Tribune Students Voices Section):
Most children today are fortunate enough to have computers and internet
access inside their homes. Of course, being able to reach the outside world
also means the outside world can reach them, and that may be dangerous.
So, how far should parents go to supervise their child's online
activities? Should kids be allowed to have computers in their rooms, or
should those computers only be located in areas of the home where the whole
family lives? Also, what are some of the online risks to children to be
aware of, and what should youngsters do when they meet someone who seems
suspicious?
Due Date of this editorial: FRIDAY, Jan. 5
Students, if you have any questions about this editorial prompt or about the
assignment itself, you can see me before or after class, email me, or stay
after school one day.
Parents, if you have any questions about this prompt or assignment, feel
free to contact me through email or over the phone.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to see their work published in
a respected newspaper and for students to become more involved in current
events that affect their own lives. Students, please take this seriously
and do your best. It will pay off! Imagine seeing your name, and your own
article, in print!
