1. Read "Tell-Tale Heart" for Mon./Tues.
2. Read "Black Cat" for Wed./Thurs -- expect a RCQ
3. Final project for HOS due Oct. 31st
Week of October 13 th
1. Theme Assignment due Friday
a. Write a 4 paragraph essay in which you prove that two themes are
evident in the novel The House of the Scorpion. Essay should be structured
as follows:
Introduction -- 2-3 sentences; your last sentence should be the
thesis in which you state the two themes you will be discussing
2 Body Paragraphs -- each body paragraph should focus on a one
of the themes you chose and give specific examples from the book to support
how that theme occurs in the novel. Use at least 2 examples per paragraph.
Incorporate at least one quote into each paragraph. Remember to include the
internal citation after. Ex. Matt clearly shows his frustration when he
screams at his teacher, "I'm not a good boy. I'm a bad clone" (67).
Conclusion -- 2-3 sentences wrapping up your argument
b. Keep in mind the corrections I made on your previous writing
assignment.

1. Read Chapters 21-25 for Monday
2. Read Chapters 26-29 for Wednesday
3. Read Chapters 30-32 for Friday
Week of September 29th
1. Read Chapters 12-14 in House of the Scorpion for Monday
2. Character Assignment due Monday
a. Pick a character from The House of the Scorpion.
b. Think of two adjectives to describe that character--they should
be meaningful adjectives (not "nice" or "kind")
c. Write a 4 paragraph essay in which you prove that your chosen
character fits the adjectives you described. Essay should be structured as
follows:
Introduction -- 2-3 sentences; your last sentence should be the
thesis in which you connect your character to the traits you have chosen
2 Body Paragraphs -- each body paragraph should focus on a one
of the traits you chose and give specific examples from the book to support
your argument. Use at least 2 examples per paragraph. Incorporate at least
