December 20th. Anyone who has at least one unprepared will receive a
progress report.
October 7th. Remember, items such as effort, preparation, coachability
will be figured at the end of the marking period.
October 1st, 2009. Our progress reports are due tomorrow. Any student with
an unprepared will receive a progress report that states, "Need Improvement in
Preparation for Class." This is just a friendly reminder to change for class.
September 11th, 2009. I hope you all have a great year. Welcome Back! We
will be continuing to issue locks and hopefully, have our elective scheduling
soon. Following that, we will begin fitness testing.
March 9th. Just a reminder, you will receive a progress report if you have
one unprepared in class.
September 23rd. Regarding Back to School Night.... I will explain to your
parents/guardians about locker room security issues, excuse notes and medical
issues, and other things pertinent to our needs.
Please bear in mind, if you use Parent Connect, that some of your grades
may change in the areas of Effort, Sportsmanship, and Coachability. What
you see listed now are your base grades in those areas. They may either go
up or down and will be finalized at the end of the marking period.
Please make sure you remove your jewelry, including earrings,
before class. The nurses' office and PE department is especially concerned
about the removal of the large hoop earrings that are in style now.

Some myths about PE...
1. Physical Education is just for the athletes. FALSE. All students will
benefit from a carefully planned program that introduces them to lifetime
activities, fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and pride, and develops the
cardiovascular system, among other things.
2. We will "roll out the balls and play games." FALSE. The development of
athleticism and related byproducts is our most important goal, not playing
games.
3. If you are prepared and try your best, you'll get an "A" in Physical
Education. FALSE. While admirable and helpful, they are not a means to an
end with your grade. Meeting criteria for success with sports skills,
sportsmanship, and test scores, are among other factors that go into your
grade.
4. Physical Education is a study hall. FALSE. Other class responsibilites
need to be taken care of on their own time. Notify other teachers that Mr.
MacDougall said you cannot miss class to make up a home ec project, finish a
history presentation, etc.
So, you have band/orchestra and you have a lesson. You grab a friend in
the hallway and say, "tell Mr. Mac I have an orchestra pull-out today."
Right? Wrong!!!! If you have a lesson for band/orchestra, you will
personally see me to let me know that you have the lesson. I will let you
go 99.9% of the time, with the notable exception being a test. Mr. Perez
and Mr. Barry have always been aware of my policy.
