2009-2010 school year We are always asked about whether students can bring in music for fitness days as well as step aerobics. The answer is yes, as long as the teacher is able to listen to the music beforehand. It is helpful to have a playlist, as well. Obviously, there are certain language and/or thematic elements that are inappropriate for our use. Activity grades are calculated for every 5 days of a given activity. A grade of up to 10 points is issued for each 5 days in an activity. For each marking period, generally from 40-50 points are issued for activity grades. This would include two separate grades for each of two activities, and a fitness grade(assuming that 50 points are issued). Numbers are of minimal importance with activity grades. What is more important is that a student puts him/herself into position for success, by utilizing the proper positioning and techniques. The simple process of putting one's feet and hands into the proper position, in the proper order, is often the simple formula for success in an activity and with one's grade. Listening and being coachable is of paramount importance. Parent excuse notes...... A parental excuse note is good for one day or two consecutive days, if so noted. A student may bring one note per day for two consecutive class meetings. I will be more strict with first and second period with notes. My feeling is that, if you are ill at 7:30 or 8:15 in the A.M., then you were probably ill at home and should have a note! At my discretion, students requesting excuse from class without a note will probably be sent to the nurse's office for observation and assessment. If your parent/guardian, through a note, requests that you be excused from activity, then you WILL be excused, no ifs, ands, or buts! Some policy changes and/or updates.....Effective this year...... You will lose 5 points off of your FINAL grade for every unprepared that you have. You will NOT be able to make up an unprepared that you received on a fitness day. You may make up a maximum of two unprepareds. Students who are unprepared may not participate. Make sure you don't fall behind early with preparation grades. I will call home to get assistance from Mom or Dad or whomever so that you don't harm your grade. Remember, five points off your FINAL grade for each unprepared. A progress report will be issued for two or more unprepareds. Why is it important to change? It IS policy, but we want you changed for hygienic reasons, for ease of movement, as well as a show of responsibility. Students should lock their cell phones and personal music devices in their locker. They should not be brought into the gym. If they are, they are subject to confiscation. Students should not leave the gym without permission. The bathrooms and drinking fountains that are to be used during class time are in the corridor. Please remove jewelry, especially watches and bracelets before entering the gym. LOCK IN YOUR LOCKER. Do NOT leave these or other valuables in your bookbags.
