This will be my 11th year teaching Computer Studies at Churchill. I
previously worked in the financial industry as a business analyst and
therefore appreciate the importance of computer knowledge. I graduated from
Carnegie-Mellon University, and am currently pursuing a Masters degree at
Rutgers University.
The Computer Studies course is the last required computer course in the
district. Utilizing a hands-on laboratory approach, students are provided
with four main areas of instruction to enhance proficiency in basic software
applications. Microsoft Word is used for text editing and formatting,
Microsoft Access is used for database design and use, and Microsoft Excel is
used to learn spreadsheet information skills. The final unit is in
Hyperstudio for interactive, multi-media presentations. All units culminate
in a final project assessment using the skills learned in labs.
