What are the main categories in a library?
Books and other materials are classified as F = Fiction; E = Easy; 92 =
Biography; Dewey Decimal numbers = Non-fiction; R = Reference. Our
materials may have another prefix such as VT = videotape; DVD; AT =
audiotape, etc. See the Call Number chart near the computers.
Note: Christian theme books can be found in all categories.
--------------------------------------
How are NON-FICTION items classified?
The ten classes of the Dewey Decimal System are used to arrange the items.
Each class is further divided into ten divisions. An abbreviated chart is
given here. Look for charts and signs in the library. Learn the system so you
can more efficiently use our library, or your public library.

How do I use the school's computer catalog?
A lot of information can be gained by learning how to use the computer
search. In addition to searching by subject, title, or author, it is very
helpful to search keywords. When the item is shown, double-click to see more
information. The call number is on the left. Whether the book is in or out
is on the right by 1/1 or 0/1 etc.
--------------------------------------
When many items come up in a search how can I organize the list?
Simply click across the top of the screen on Call Number! Instantly all
items are put in order.
--------------------------------------
Can I search the CCS Library from home?
Yes! Open the CCS Web Catalog icon! The page looks different from the one in
the library, but it is very similar. When the items appear, double-click on
the title; click on copies to see if the book is IN or OUT. Investigate how
to use it! (Also, CCS is on JerseyCAT... scroll down from a title to see
what libraries are listed!)

What if I want to use the Internet on library computers?
First, you need to have submitted a parent's permission on our CCS Internet
form. Always ask permission, and briefly explain what you want to
search. Sign the clipboard chart and give the time. A librarian or teacher
must sign also. You may print pages for $ .20 each, but be cautious in what
you print. Generally, large graphics should not be printed. Exit your sites.
