Will there be homework every night?
Yes. Math is a subject that needs review in order to obtain the knowledge
necessary to move on. I will assign Math most nights and expect it to be
handed in in the beginning of class the following day. I will make effort to
grade each and return promptly.
There will be no homework assigned on Wednesday nights so that your night is
free to attend church youth group. It will be my goal to have the entire
week's assignments on the Teacher Web so you can work ahead and/or know what
is expected.
--------------------------------------
Can they use calculators?
That answer varies class to class, sometimes student to student. You do not
need to purchase one for the beginning of the year.
--------------------------------------
Is there a particular calculator that is needed?
We can begin with the one you have at home. I am not mandating or endorsing
any specific calculator, but I find that Texas Instruments have the best. If
you are on the market, the Texas Instrument TI-34 II, Explorer Plus (Walmart
$18.00) will last through Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry and
some sciences. Please make sure your name is on the calculator.
--------------------------------------
Is Mrs. Mauro available for extra help?
Of course. You can find Mrs. Mauro during lunch. I will be
available other times as the schedule unfolds.
--------------------------------------
When will the quizzes and tests be?
It is my goal to give weekly quizzes, and chapter and unit tests to assess
progress. They are currently scheduled for the Fridays.
--------------------------------------
Is there partial credit?
If they show all the work, I can understand it and they deserve it, I'll be
happy to give it.
--------------------------------------
Can they correct their work for more credit?
Yes. On homework assignments they may always redo an assignemnt that they
did poorly. Any homework grade below an 80% may be corrected for a higher
grade. They will receive partial credit and the grade will be
adjusted. On tests and quizzes, I'll have to make a call individually.
--------------------------------------
Will points be taken off if work is illegible?
Absolutely. Neatness counts and sloppiness doesn't.
If I must struggle to grade a paper, because I cannot understand the work,
the student may be asked to redo the entire assignment.
