Each lesson has a rule that may be used to spell many words, not just the
words in the lesson. It is important for your child to learn the rules.
A * means that the word is a sight word, does not follow the rules, and must
be memorized.
Lesson 1 When there is one vowel in a word, that vowel usually says
its short sound.

says its long sound and the second vowel usually is silent.

Lesson 24 When a root word ends with a single consonant and the vowel
is short, the consonant is usually doubled before adding a suffix beginning
