Gearing up for testing and spring break

Budget q's-district is keeping in-house busing, more cost-effective.

Student activity fees will be brought back next year; board still discussing how to structure-be it pay one flat fee or per activity.

Preliminary budget passed, must be approved this Wed.

Grades are due Fri 3/22, gave till Monday 3/24, report cards 3/28

Conflict with 8th grade dance date and Cherokee graduation on 6/14' dance date will be moved.

Book Fair: Criste Siedlarz chair. PTA purchased books to complete teacher wish lists. Librarian Mary Lynn Williams is making up a wish list. Next year looking at B&N instead of Scholastic.

End of Year Party: Palona Wong chair. Funplex in Mt Laurel in May. $17 per student includes unlimited indoor/outdoor rides, pizza/hot dog and drink. No tokens. Whole facility--Go Karts, Laser Tag, bowling, simulator, 3D theatre, foam frenzy, mini golf, rides, no bumper boats or splashing speedway--no water

Principal's Report--Ms. Romanelli

· DeMasi won the Kidsville News Day of Fun. We collected over 10,000 pens andpencils. Thank you to the Chen Family for their generous donation.

· This year there will be two 8th Grade Graduations. Both Red and Green Halls will graduate on the same day but at different times. Graduation usually lasts 1 hour.

· Planning additional 8th Grade Event that will take place on a Friday evening. 8th Graders will get to hang out at school with all their friends and have choice of different activities. Will need help from PTA.

Teachers'Report--Ms. Myers

· The Spring Sports Season starts in late February and early March. Spring Sports Physicals for Girls Softball due February 22, 2013. All Other Spring Sports Physicals due March 1, 2013. Check Daily Announcements on PTA website for Tryout Dates.

· Finished measuring 8th Graders for their graduation gowns.

Book fair--(Criste Siedlarz not present, setting up for Family night)

Family night is tonight. Book Fair is this week, Feb11-14, from 7am to 2:30pm. Students are allowed to stop by before and after school and during lunch hour.

Snowball Dance--Carolyn Quigg

THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped decorate, clean up, serve, and sent in snacks and water for the Snowball Dance. THANK YOU to Christine Pasquarello, Heather Hirshfield, Erin Borman, Jeff House, Beth Kromish, Tracy Frascarelli and Mike Frascarelli for designing and building the photobooth. Kids had a great time.

End of Year Party--Palona Wong is the Chair. Will be at the Funplex this year. Students will get unlimited access to indoor and outdoor rides (excludes water boats and waterplay areas because they are still closed). DeMasi will have complex all to themselves. Includes choice of pizza or hot dog and their choice of drink. Looking at charging around $17/student.

School Supply Kits- Carolyn Quigg

Looking into upgrading some ofthe items from last year's school supply list. Many people felt some items didn't hold up well and would have liked a better quality item. Upgrading items will increase cost of kits. PTA members present at meeting felt that if an email was sent out explaining that items were being upgraded in kits parents would support increased price.

President's Report--Linda House

·Evesham Township School District is holding a communitymeeting tonight in the DMS Cafeteria at 7pm and on Wednesday, February 13 at7pm at the All-Purpose Room at Marlton Middle. The status of Clubs and Activities, Strategic Planning andTechnology initiatives, and bussing are important topic areas to be considered. Information about the preliminary 2013-2014 budget to be provided.

· Important Parent Workshop on Social Media Issues being held on Tuesday, February 12 at Marlton Middle at 7:30pm.

· 8thGraders: Cherokee Course SelectionSheets and 8th Grade Yearbook Ads are due by February 14th.

· School Closed to students on Friday, Feb 15th for a Teacher In-Service and on Monday, Feb 18th for President's Day.

· On Friday, March 1:

o 6th Grade Dance from 2pm to 3:30pm, cost is $5

o 7th Grade vs Teachers Volleyball Tourney, 7pm to 9pm. Forms to play due Feb 22

  • Morey's Pier Tickets- Linda House is looking into doing Morey's Pier Ticket Sale again. Courtesy to parents because it allows them to get tickets at discountedr ate and earns a little cash for the PTA.

Dresscode is Sunday's best, only DMS 8th graders can attend, not prom attire

Tryingto build a photo booth and will share with elementary school, Tracy's husband is designing and building. Discussion on materials to use.

BlackPVC pipe 10 feet, $15 per pipe, estimated around $250 for black PVC with black curtains. Black looks nicer but can use white PVC pipe and duct tape black tape around white pipes.

Anyone interested in being on the board nextyear should contact the Nominating Committe. This is the last year for Linda House and Chris Ciotti to serve on board.

Completed harassment, intimidation and bullying training, will be offering parent night with DMS elementary, January 14.

Defy the Issue: 7th grade take parent to school night, next Monday at Cherokee, 10/29.

Kids will see motivational media piece during school and at night, during violence and vandalism awareness week, anti drug and alcohol campaign.

Entertainment/Kids Stuff Coupon Books-Linda House

Sale over, doing well, about 35 books still out for both halls. Made about $3500 all said and done, very good since 8th graders didn't get books to take home. Thanks to everyone who supported, especially Connie Fitler, who handled 6th-grade books and Palona Wong, who handled 7th grade books.

BJs membership--Carolyn Quigg

Sold 30 memberships, primarily new ones, six or seven renewals, $190 profit from that, $5 for every application.

Joe Corbi's--Tracy Frascarelli

Start 10/29, ends 11/12, delivered on 12/10 at 11:30, joint effort with DES, pickup in mini gym.

Clothing--Chris Ciotti

Sale went well, ended on 10/12, took in a little over $2000.

President's Report--Linda House

Notes from PTA/PTO presidents' meeting with superintendent: Breakfast is available this year to students, $1.50, bagels, cereal, oatmeal.

New district lunch calendar through www.schoolmenu.com or on Evesham Twp school site. New federal policy: students are required to take a fruit or vegetable, leading schools to compost to reduce trash 60 percent. Our school was mentioned as a model how to handle it, Mrs. Keegan gym teacher, allows kids to eat the healthy snack in her classroom.

Yearbooks orders: after Halloween price goes up to $35, now $25. 8th-grade parents: Info about placing ads in the yearbook will come in a month. Purchase of ads and yearbook are separate.

Winter sports physicals due Nov 7, must turn in to try out, tryouts start weeks of Nov 12 for winter sports.

Old/Unfinished Business

Parent portal website issues-township has instituted its own security certificate that is secure even if insecure message pops up. Download Google Chrome for optimal access.

Balance on hand, $13,300.69 as of Sept 27. Line-by-line itemization of budget leaves proposed income of $23,470 and proposed expenses of $23,450, with $13,300.69 cushion.

Welcome to new parents.
School-supply kits got off ground well, should go smoother next year.
Teachers loved the back-to-school luncheons.
Back-to-school night a grand success.
Two PTAs, elementary and middle schools, moved a little closer together.
Graduation this year will be handled differently, as the 8th-grade class is large; considering graduating by house.
Bullying training for parents coming up in October.
7th-graders and parents invited to Cherokee on October 29 for Prevention Plus presentation about talking to kids about drugs and alcohol.
Looking into Parent Portal website issues.
Discussion of extra school supplies not in use yet.

Teachers' Report--Mrs. Myers
Thanks to PTA for the back-to-school luncheon.
Teacher PTA memberships still coming in; no actual count till next week.
Mrs. Myers needs volunteers to make ice bags next week.

Executive/Committee Reports
School Supply kits--Carolyn Quigg
144 kits sold total. Will be tweaking for this year and looking for parental feedback on quality of items. PTA made a profit of $5 a kit on average.

Entertainment/Kids Stuff coupon books--Linda House
Entertainment books, $30 (sell 4 and get $25 Visa gift card). Kids' stuff books, $25 (has ShopRite coupons. All orders and money due by Oct 9.

Joe Corbi's--Tracy Frascarelli, starts Oct 29, ends Nov 12; delivery date is 12/10.

Clothing--Chris Ciotti
Taking orders for DMS clothing sale through Oct 12.

Membership--Christine Makas
Membership contest ends Oct 18; red/green homeroom with highest percent participation wins bagel breakfast on Oct 26.

School store--Erin Borman
Next School Store on Oct 18; looking at getting DMS car magnets.

Upcoming events, Oct 8 school closed, teacher in service. Oct 26, 6th-grade dance from 2 to 3:30 PM; $5 covers DJ and snacks; kids ride late bus home. Oct 29, teacher in-service, 2 hour morning delay. Nov 19, Parent math night from 6 to 7 before next PTA meeting.

Discussion of whether parents prefer a traditional half-day to the 2-hour morning delay for teacher in-service.
