A
letter from Dr. Heflich regarding the Dress Code Policy discussed at the March
13 Board of Education meeting:
Dear Parents:
Recently,
the Board of Education received a letter from the Valley Middle School Student
Council. The students requested that the Board review the Student Dress Code
Policy. Furthermore, the students cited the unusually warm weather recently
and requested approval to wear appropriate shorts to school. At its Meeting
tonight, the Board considered the students' requests. This year's weather has
been unpredictable and unusual with a winter of little snow, and May
temperatures in March. The Board decided to review the Student Dress Code
Policy this spring and will revise it as needed. The Board also decided that,
due to the current weather, students will be permitted to wear appropriate
shorts to school beginning tomorrow for the remainder of the school year.
Please remember that shorts worn by students to school should extend down past
the pupil's fingertips when extended. Additionally, shorts with distracting or
suggestive words/images on them are not acceptable for school. The Board
thanks our students for the excellent manner in which they have expressed
their requests.
Thank you.
