What should I wear to Physical Education class? Boys and girls, please remember it is important to wear the appropriate clothing and footwear to physical education class. This rule must be followed in order to ensure safety for all students in the classroom and have a greater ability to successfully accomplish class goals.
Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders: On days that you have PE class be sure to wear comfortable clothing and wear or bring sneakers.
4th and 5th graders: You are expected to change in the locker rooms before/after PE class. In your lockers make sure you have appropriate athletic clothing as well as athletic sneakers. If you do not sign the locker room contract and bring a master lock in, you will not have a locker. You will then be expected to bring your clothing and sneakers to class on PE days.
* For those students who change into their PE clothing….Don’t forget to bring your clothing home each week to be washed!
How can I get an "E"? Physical Education isn’t about how high you can jump or how many times you can hit a baseball. In PE I expect all of my students to work their hardest, try new things, help others, be kind and patient, and have fun. It is important for me to see that my students are putting in 100% effort. I will be looking at participation, respect, attendance, willingness to try new things, over all progress, etc. Every student has the opportunity to receive an “E” in my class!
What happens if I can't find my PE clothing? Make sure to always check our lost and found for any missing items. Notify me and I’ll try my best to help you find your clothing or find you alternate pieces. Don’t forget to check and even double check that you have put all your items back in your locker and then locked it.
What are the extra credit questions for? Every week I will ask students an extra credit question that relates to what we are learning in class. Questions are written on the chalk board in the gym, posted on my website, and asked out loud in class. Students are given one opportunity to answer the question correctly. I encourage them to do research, get their families involved, and learn something extra! If students are correct they receive one EXTRA point. For every ten points earned students may choose a prize from my prize box. In addition, if students have lost points for things such as poor behavior, forgetting to come prepared, or not handing in homework, this extra point will help redeem them. Please look the questions up together, it's fun and you can all learn!
What should I do if I'm having trouble opening my lock? There are a few different types of locks that are acceptable at Dogwood Hill. If you are having trouble with your lock, you may switch to a lock that may be easier for you to open (example: wordlock- a lock that has letters and spells out words, or maybe a speed dial- lock that has a button in the middle where you push the combination in by direction.) If you are still having trouble opening your lock, bring it home and practice opening it in between PE classes or on weekends. If you are still having trouble with your lock, check out these instructional "youtube" videos on opening locks:
