| | Our school decided to make Alex's Lemonade Stand our charity for this school
year. We felt this was a great charity for our school to contribute to since
our school is a K-3 school of nearly 700 kids and we felt our students could
relate to Alex's story. In the weeks leading up to the walk, many teachers
read Alex's story in their classrooms. At one of our All School Meetings we
told the students that we would be holding our Walk-A-Thon this year with our
proceeds going to ALSF. Children brought in donations to "sponsor" their walk.
As you can see we raised nearly $7,000.00! After two rain-outs we were able to
hold our Walk-A-Thon on November 1st. Each child in the school walked a 1.4
mile course around the neighborhoods near our school. Even our Pre-Schoolers
walked their own version of our Walk-A-Thon, holding a line and walking
together. Our PTA was a huge help. Many moms were here helping give out lemon
ice (of course) for the tired walkers. Several parents came to walk along and
our school mascot, Dexter the Dragon, was on hand to cheer each class as they
left on their walk. It was a great day.
