Athletic Policies

----------EAST BRUNSWICK ATHLETIC INSURANCE PROCEDURES-----------

The school system has limited insurance coverage for all students
participating in athletics. THIS INSURANCE IS SECONDARY TO THE PARENTS'
INSURANCE COVERAGES. The following procedures are applicable whenever an
athlete is injured while participating on the school's athletic teams and is
seen by a physician.

1. Report all injuries and doctor visits related to athletic participation to
the district athletic trainer as soon as possible.

2. Obtain the doctor's findings, restrictions etc. in writing and give them
to Mr. Hossler, certified athletic trainer.

3. Submit all bills to the parents' insurance company FIRST.

4. When the parent's insurance company reaches its limits, contact Mr.
Hossler at 613-6934 for an excess claim form.

5. NOTE: In the event the parents have no coverage, the school district is
still limited to the coverage of its policy.

6. NOTE: Parents are responsible for meeting the deductible amount of their
policy.

7. Parents need only one excess claim form per injury. Bills and EOBs
(explanation of benefits) should be attached to the form and mailed to the
school district's insurance company. If necessary, additional EOBs can be
mailed to the school's insurance carrier without a claim form by just
indicating the athlete's name and injury.

Emergency Weather Guidelines

SEVERE WEATHER
Severe weather statements are issued by the National Weather Service.
A "WATCH" designates an area in which a severe storm, tornado, etc. is most
likely to occur. A "WARNING" is issued when an actual event has occurred.

LIGHTNING SAFETY

  When indoors:
  1. Stay there
  2. Stay away from open doors, windows, fireplaces, radiators, stoves, metal
pipes, sinks, and plug-in electrical equipment
  3. Don't use plug-in electrical equipment
  4. Don't use the telephone

  When outdoors:
  1. Don't use or handle metal objects
  2. Automobiles offer excellent lightening protection, but are unsafe
     in tornado like conditions
  3. Seek shelter in a building; if you cannot get indoors, seek shelter
     in thelowest place possible
  4. Avoid hilltops, wire fences, exposed sheds, any electrically conductive
object if you feel an electrical charge (your hair stands on end, skin
tingles), DROP TO THE GROUND IMMEDIATELY!
  5. In the event of a lightning sighting, play must be suspended for 30
minutes starting from the last sighting.
