Global Understanding

Global Understanding is a curriculum based on the NJ curriculum for Holocaust Education. In an attempt to help the children understand that they are a citizen of the world as well as Scotch Plains, NJ, I have chosen this course title. Within this class, children will have lessons on Friendship, Respect and Tolerance. Literature will be used as the starting points for the various lessons throughout the year. Students will participate in activities that will help them to become kind and caring individuals who respect all those around them. They will learn how to: deal with difficult people, express their opinions in respectful ways, work together in a cooperative manner, learn more about themselves as well as their classmates, learn how to make the right choices in various situations. Most importantly, they will learn the importance of the simple human dignity bestowed upon each of us if we practice respect for all and develop our own self-respect through our thoughts, words, and actions.
