MathOur day will begin with Math as do our weather, calendar, day counting and temperature. During the first few weeks, your child is expected to commit to memory their telephone number and address! Unit 1: Skills we will focus on: Counting forward from 1-20 Counting backward from 20-1 One more than a given number One less than a given number Comparing numbers Using the calendar Working in Small groups Explorations - discovering manipulatives in small groups Weather and Temperature Routines Working with number stories
Unit 2: Skills we have finished focusing on in this unit: Counting up and back on a number grid Understanding the numbers in a phone number and what they mean Exploring complements of 10 Using unit labels for numbers, especially in a number story Becoming familiar with an analog clock Telling time to the hour Explorations - comparing lengths of objects; practicing drawing straight lines with a straightedge; developing familiarity with what constitutes a set of dominoes Writing cent notation Comparing two numbers Recording number of pennies Exchanging pennies for nickels Finding the values of various combinations of nickels and pennies Using and writing number models for more than and less than stories
