INTEGRATED LANGUAGE ARTS

Objectives:
VISUALIZE: Make a movie in your head.
QUESTION: Ask yourself who, what, when, where, and why.
CLARIFY: Not sure about a word? Reread the words you just read. Look at 
the pictures. CLARIFY new words.
PREDICT: Ask yourself "What will happen next?"
CONNECT: Text to Self - Connect a book to a personal 
event or feeling. Text to Text - Connect 2 books together. 
Text to World - Connect a book to an outside event not directly connected to 
you.
REACT: "This book makes me feel_________!"
SUMMARIZE: State the most important things about the text.

Hear, recognize, and sort words by beginning sounds 
Hear, recognize, and sort words by ending sounds 
Learn and use the sound of short a (bat, ran, cab, apple)
Learn and use the sound of short i (pin, hit, fin)
Learn and use the sound of short o (top, hot, dog)
Learn and use the sound of short u (run, hug, bus)
Learn and use the sound of short e (red, net, then)

Learn the routines of Writer's Workshop using labels and pictures to write
Work independently in a  Writing Workshop
Use writing, along with pictures, to tell each story
Write longer, more varied, more thoughtful pieces

Add details to create more meaning in your story
Edit for correct punctuation in your sentence (capital letter, period, 
exclamation mark, question mark)

Write a Small Moment Story - ask a family member for ideas
To study an author (Angela Johnson) and her work, to gather ideas for own 
writing





EVERYDAY MATH:
October objectives: read a thermometer, tell number stories, skip count to 
200 by twos, tens and fives, read a calendar, write numbers to 100,
know your address, phone number and birthdate with year





Ongoing Character Education objectives:

Recognize the difference between BULLYING and NORMAL CONFLICT
