1) Read for 20 minutes, 5 nights per week. Strong readers use strategies when
reading (conncetions, inferring, questioning, predicting, visualizing)
Remember to use post it notes to record your thinking.
2) If you want to participate in the writing contest (to have lunch with the
author Dan Gutman) your story or essay is due on Tuesday, November 24th.
Winners will be notified on Wednesday, November 25th. Dan Gutman will visit
Frost on Monday, November 30th.
3)Story Prompts
#1 Produce the beginning of a story emulating Dan Gutman’s writing
style, i.e. (high adventure, underdog main character, humor, etc.)
#2 A.J., the main character in My Weird School, frequently thinks his
teachers are hiding some kind of secret. Is one of your teachers hiding a
secret? What would it be?
“My teacher, ____________, comes to school disguised as a (an) every
day, but I know their true identity is ____________. I know this because…
OR
Write a 3 paragraph essay explaining why you want to have lunch with Dan
Gutman. Each paragraph should contain one reason and evidence to support each
reason.
Remember to check your work for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and
capitalization.
