Be sure to follow the correct format in your Writer's Notebook:

1. All pages must be numbered on the top outside corner.

2. All pages must be labeled with CW (Classwork) or HW (Homework).

3. All entries must be dated.

4. All entries must have a title.

5. All entries must be at least a full page.

6. All entries must be written on the left side of the notebook. Leave the right side of the notebook BLANK for future revision.

-Determine your BIG IDEA and write your Thesis Statement   
 EX:  Frost is an awesome school.
-Support your thesis with 3 reasons (Each reason is a mini thesis)
EX 1: There are many great clubs at Frost.
EX 2: The field trips are amazing.
EX 3: We take pride in our school.
-Bullet three supporting details for each reason/mini thesis
EX 1: Early Act
          Safety 
          Healthy Helpers
EX 2: Trip to HMS to see dance 
          Able to see new performing arts center
          All elementary schools
EX 3: Courtyard
          Plant bulbs
          Clean up during recess
-Each mini thesis represents a paragraph; each reason should be explained with at least 3 sentences and provide supporting details.

An Essay Is...
-Organized by ideas (I think this one thing, I also think this thing, and furtermore I think this third thing).
-Held together by an idea that is developed across the whole text.
-Written so the reader can think about the topic.
