This Week In Room 6

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students in Room 6!  I am very proud of all your hard work on the Terra Nova last week!

In ILA this week we will begin a special unit about the rainforest.  We will read The Great Kapok Tree using the active reading strategies.  While reading independently the students will use these same strategies to enhance comprehension. We will practice writing sensational paragraghs and then the students will write a great paragraph for their portfolio. Students will continue to edit sentences looking for capitalization, punctuation and spelling errors.  Our word wall words are rule breakers.  Please see the word all section  or the note that was sent home for a complete explanation.  We are enjoying hearing about the MANY adventures of our Flat Stanleys and Flat Stanlettes.

This week we will complete Unit 11.  Students will explore multiplication patterns and find products.  The students will then use this experience to help them solve equal sharing stories and division problems.  We will explore multiplication and division fact families. The assessment for Unit 11 will be given next Tuesday.Nightly practice with basic math facts would be beneficial.

In Social Studies we will continue Unit 4 - All About Work!  This week the students will use their knowledge about routes to investigate the trade routes that exist between countries.  The students will also look at how technology has affected the way our needs and wants are met.  The times of our lives shine in the hall.

In Science the students will continue our Life Science unit.  We will look at habitats and food chains.  The students will also observe the growth and development of our second organism - frog eggs.  We will outline the life cycle of a frog. This week we will learn about tadpoles.

In Health we will continue with our Here's to You 2000 unit.

So you can see, Second Grade is a very busy place to be!
