When should my child begin thinking about high school?

Now! By 7th grade, they should be fine-tuning their list of perspective high
schools. By 8th grade they should know what schools they would like to apply
to, aware of tentative test dates, preparing to complete applications and
requesting that current teachers write them a recommendation. Parents should
be working in concert with their children to help them accomplish these goals.
