About The Teacher
Dear Student and Family: Welcome to Hammarskjold Middle School. It is an adventure that we will take together. September is here, and it is an exciting month! For teachers and students, it’s a month of change and new beginnings – new surroundings, new friends, new experiences, new skills, and new challenges. I am anticipating a wonderful year of learning and growth. I value a class family in school because I believe students work best when they are placed in a comfortable, supportive learning enviornment. I will encourage you to take risks without fear of failure; placing much emphasis on our class motto, “Mistakes happen here… and that’s o.k.” My positive teaching approach will help you to develop strong organizational skills and orderly workspaces. I will encourage you to become more responsible by informing you of guidelines regarding discipline, homework, and general expectations, all of which will remain consistent throughout the year. During the first few days of school, we are going to laugh and get to know each other by participating in a few “ice breaker” activities. I am interested in finding out who you are! I am very excited that you are in my class. Further details about this enriching learning experience will be provided at Back-to-School Night on . In the meantime if you have any questions please feel free to contact me by e-mailing mgreen@ebnet.org or calling 613-6890. I will return your e- mail or call as soon as possible. Sincerely, Mrs. Green

Mission
1. Take out your agenda and copy your homework immediately. Don’t wait for the bell to ring if you are early. Be sure to copy EXACTLY what is on the board. If you need to check the homework, go to the class website at www.ebnet.org. It is located on the Hammarskjold page under staff. Click on Mrs. Green. Sometimes that site is down, so if you write your own assignments carefully, you won’t need to check. 2. Always put your books under your chair or the table. Be sure that your books are not out in the aisles where we need to walk. Can you guess why this is an important rule? 3. Complete the “Do Now” after copying your homework. I will be checking homework at that time, so you will have a chance to work independently or with your group on the “Do Now “assignment. 4. Homework counts for your report card grade. Doing your homework every day will help balance any poor test or quiz grades and help your overall average. Choose a quiet, distraction-free place in which to do your work and go there every day at the same time. Work for 45 minutes and take a 10-minute break. Be efficient with your time. Don’t make homework take longer than it should by wasting time. 5. Homework will be accepted one day late for half credit. All missed homework should be made up, even if not for full credit. Try not to fall into the habit of turning your work in late. Progress reports and report card comments about late homework are not fun to receive. 6. Have a buddy phone number for each subject. Record the phone numbers in your agenda. You can always add more numbers later. 7. Preparation counts as part your report card grade. Bring all needed materials to class with you. YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO GO TO OUR LOCKER FOR ANYTHING! 8. Avoid using the bathroom during instruction or group work time. 9. Take advantage of our classroom library! You may sign out one book at a time, and keep it for a month if needed. Before returning the book to the shelf, show it to me so I will know that you have returned it. Follow our classroom rules: • Treat your teachers, classmates, & school personnel with respect. • Treat school property respectfully. • Be polite. Listen to others. Wait until someone is finished speaking before offering your ideas. • Be a good friend/classmate. Be the kind of person you would like your friends to be – honest, loyal, truthful, and dependable! 10. If you need help, see me. For this to be a great year for you, we will need to work together. Enjoy your year at Hammarskjold!
