Reading
Response Entries are assigned at least once a week. Students should respond in
their Reading Response Journals. Journals should be neatly completed. They
will be collected at the end of each unit.
Reading Response Entry One:
Elements of A Mystery Story - Complete Chart on Murder, She Wrote
-"Keep the Home Fries Burning" to
determine if the episode has these 10 elements.
Reading Response Entry Two:
Rules of A Mystery Story - Write a paragraph: Does the episde of Murder,
She Wrote - "If A Body Meet a Body" follow the four rules of a classic
mystery story? Use specific examples.
Reading Response Entry Three:
How Authors Reveal Character: Read your IR book for 30 minutes. List
information you have learned about some of the characters. Then, explain how
the author revealed the information. (actions, dialogue, reactions, internal
thoughtss)
Be sure to provide specific details!
Reading Response Four:
Setting: Read your IR book for 30 minutes. List details about the setting.
Then, in 2-3 sentences, explain why the settng is so important to the story
and why you think the author crafted THIS particular setting.
Reading Response Five
Foreshadowing: Clues about something that may happen in the future that an
author embeds in a text. Begin by reviewing the first two chapters of ATTWN
- find any examples of potential foreshadowing. As we read Chapter 3, keep an
eye out for additional (potential) foreshdowing clues. Record them in your
journal!
Reading Response Six:
Authors Draw Attention by: using italics or bold, using repetition, using an
ellipses (three dots) - As we read Chapter 4, look for text features Christie
uses to draw your attention to particular scenes/lines. Why do you think she
used these particular features?
Reading Response Seven:
Flashback - a literary device in which an earlier event is inserted into the
normal chronological order of a plot. As we read Chapter Five, look for
flashback - Why are they important? What information is revealed through the
flashback?
