About The Teacher
I should start by saying that I absolutely love my job. Teaching has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl, I used to "play" school in my den. Thankfully, I had several very patient stuffed animals! I consider myself most fortunate to do something that I love every single day - to work with children - to enrich their lives and to allow them to enrich mine. Hammarskjold is a very special place. When I joined the staff of HMS nine years ago, I never dreamed I would make so many wonderful friends and have the privilege of working with so many incredibly amazing teachers. I taught sixth grade ILA for my first six years and also taught 7th grade Verbal Gate for three years. This is my third year teaching an entire schedule of sixth grade Verbal Gate and I love it! In my free time, I love to read, which is why I hope to inspire so many of my students to read, read, read - this year! I have a passion for books and I truly believe there is nothing more special than opening a brand-new book to hear the cover crackle. A new book holds so much promise - promise of amazing adventures, classic characters, fantastic, magical, enchanted worlds and unbelievable journeys. I LOVE to read and I hope you'll join me in exploring the amazing world of literature! In addition to reading, I love to shop, spend time with my family and friends, and bake! I am a firm believer that a good cookie can cure even the worst day! I have an incredible husband -Frank, two wonderful step-kids - Alicia and Matthew, and three of the cutest pets this world has to offer - Sir, my Italian Greyhound, Ada Mae, my tortoise shell cat, and Trinity - my calico cat. I love them more than life itself, they are my angels with fur. For me, some of life's greatest joys include: an email from a student I had years ago letting me know they learned a lot in my class, spending an afternoon watching football with my husband, seeing my stepdaughter make an amazing save in her soccer game, seeing an "A" on my stepson's report card, getting crazy kisses from my puppy when I finally get home at the end of the day, a neat closet, new clothes, hearing my cats purr, a perfect beach day (lots of sun and sand, little sunburn!), shopping with my sister and my mom, traveling to an island, Christmas morning, getting a phone call from my Dad - just to say "hi," a sharpened pencil, another day everyone I love wakes up healthy, colored chalk, a humid-free day, seeing the leaves change color in the autumn, a new dress, something that turns out better than I expected, a successful lesson, a compliment, great service at a restaurant, coming home after being away, warm feet in the winter, new shoes that don't hurt, feeling proud, a shiny ring, watching my students succeed.... every single day. Some of my favorites: Favorite Books: Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, Forever by Pete Hamil, Twilight (the series) by Stephenie Meyer Favorite Foods: Pizza, homemade chocolate chip cookies, sushi and Frank's fried chicken and guacamole. Favorite Stores: Barnes & Noble, Banana Republic, JCREW, Target, Anthropologie Favorite Seasons: Summer - I love the freedom and being tan. Autumn - Pumpkins, sweatshirts, football!

This is easy - To see each student that passes through my door in September leave a better person in June.
