Homework

Nov. 30
*Test on Animal Farm chapters 1-4 tomorrow.  Spelling is dictated so you need
to know how to spell the vocabulary.  Study your notes.
*Wednesday- place your alliteration/onomatopoeia, metaphor, and
personification poem into your poetry book. Illustrate it.  Due Dec. 2nd
Wednesday.
*Also for Wednesday, create a puzzle with your word sort.  (puzzlemaker.com). 
Use at least 10 words from the sort.  Make a key and print out one copy for
your peer to practice the word sort.
Be sure to know how to use the spelling words in
sentences. WTW quiz on Friday. 


Nov. 25th
Test on Animal Farm chapters 1-4 is Tuesday, Dec. 1-study all vocabulary, 
notes etc.
Place in your poetry book the alliteration/onomatopoeia poem, metaphor poem, 
and personification poem.  Illustrate the borders and page.  This is due on 
Wednesday, Dec. 2nd.
Monday is the presentation for the flag/maxims.  Bring in materials for the 
presentations.      HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Nov. 24th
*"I Am" poem should be placed into the poetry book and illustrated.  Remember
to decorate your borders.  Bring your poetry book to class tomorrow for a
"Gallery Walk."
*Bring in materials for the flag and maxim presentation.
*Complete your rough copy of the personification poem in your writer's 
notebook.
Reminder-test for Animal Farm chapters 1-4 is Tuesday after the break.


Nov. 23
*Due Wednesday, "I Am" poem placed into your poetry book and illustrate it. 
You may use graphics, scrapbook etc. Bring in the book for a gallery walk on
Wednesday.
*Read Animal Farm chapters 5+6 and only do the vocabulary for the pages on 
20+21.
*Test on Animal Farm will be Tuesday, Dec. 1.  Study chapters 1-4 only for the
test.  Vocabulary is on the test, quotations, notes.
*Flag/maxim presentations on Monday, Nov. 30th.

Nov. 20th
*For Tuesday, read Animal Farm chapters 5+6. Working packet vocabulary pages
20+21; only do the vocabulary section of the pages.
*Test on chapters 1-4 will be Monday, Nov. 30th after the Thanksgiving break.
*The test will be on the vocabulary, book, historical figures represented in
the book, and the quotes we work on in class.
*Create your rough copy of the "I Am" poem.  Write this in your writer's 
notebook.
*Work on the bordering of your poetry book.  Remember to do the borders in a
very light pencil. 


Nov. 18th
*RR #1 second marking period.  (see web page).
*Type a final copy of your metaphor poem and save it.  Print out a copy for me
to view and bring it to school tomorrow.
***Reminder:  Two gallon plastic bag for your poetry book.  Place your name,
my name, and room 2622 on it.
*IR 30 minutes.

Nov. 17th
*Final copy of your alliteration/onomatopoeia poem. * Save it to your computer
for our poetry book. * Bring in the final copy tomorrow.
*Complete your simile/metaphor poem.  (rough copy in your writing notebook).
3 stanzas minimum.  This does not have to rhyme.
**Reminder 2 gallon plastic bag for Friday.
***Anyone who has a brother/sister that did a poetry book with me in Verbal,
please bring it in to school.  This will be returned.

Nov. 16
Create a four stanza quatrain rhymed poem using the literary devices of
alliteration and onomatopoeia. (rough copy in your writer's notebook).You 
select the pattern of the quatrain.  Remember it can be ABBA, AABB,ABCB, ABAB.
Suggested theme: nature (beach, sunset, sunrise, forest,weather, etc). See 
the poetry packet pages 15,16,17, and 18 for a reminder of the lesson and the 
terms discussed today.
*For Friday, bring in a 2 gallon plastic bag. This will carry your white blank
book used for the poetry book.

Nov. `13
Read for Monday, chapters 3+4 of Animal Farm.  In the working packet, do pages
16,17, and 18.  Also, find examples of propaganda in each of the chapters. 
Record the page and example.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Nov. 10
Background test Thursday.  There will be a word bank but you must study.
Read chapters 1+2 of Animal Farm and do pages 12 and 13 in the Working Packet.
 This is due on Thursday.

Nov. 9
RR journals are due tomorrow.
Study terms and background on the Russian Revolution. Test will be Thursday.
Pre-reading packet #1- page 5 due tomorrow.

Nov. 4
Review the terms we went over in class today on the types of government that
exist. 
RR journals are due Tuesday, Nov. 10th.
IR over the break.  Relax with a good book, and have a great four day weekend.
Reminder: Party on Tuesday, Nov. 10th for period 9/10; you earned your 100 
points!
 
Nov. 3
Fictitious bio due tomorrow.  Create a colored picture of your leader and make
that the cover page of your paper.  12 font and double space.  Don't forget a
heading.
Reminder:  RR journals due Tuesday, Nov. 10th.
Period 9/10 you earned your 100 marbles.  Party is Tuesday, Nov. 10th.

Nov. 2
Edit your fictitious biography for GUMS.
Fictitious bio is due on Wednesday. 12 font double space and a picture of your
leader to be stapled to the top of your fictitious biography.
Test tomorrow on The Caine Mutiny.  Study your notes.
RR journals will be collected on Tuesday, Nov. 10th.
** Period 9/10 you reached your 100 points!  Bring in on Tuesday, Nov. 10th
the treat you signed up for the party.

Oct. 30
Test on Caine Mutiny on Tuesday.
Revise your ficitious bio in a different color ink. (remember add, subtract, 
rearrange).
Interpret the quote at the bottom of the question sheet.)Hand out). "Just 
because you have the right to do it, doesn't mean it is right to do it." 
First interpret the quote, then relate it to the actions of the men on the 
Caine. 

Oct. 29
Hand-out on The Caine Mutiny. Answer in complete and elaborate sentences.
(There are questions on the back of the question sheet).
Reminder RR journal will be collected on 11/10.

Based upon today's "Henny Penny" lesson, answer the questions in a complete
and thorough answer:
Do we follow leadership blindly?
Can such acceptance mean destruction?
When do we question our leaders?
Do selfish interests dictate our decision to follow?
WTW assessment is Friday. Study your sort.

Oct. 20th
Essay is due tomorrow.  Staple the FCA hand-out to the top of the paper.  Be 
sure your heading is on the paper and your name on the FCA sheet.
Sentences and word sort is due tomorrow for WTW.
WTW quiz is Friday.

Oct. 19th
WTW spelling sort and sentences due Wednesday.  Also, find 5 new words that 
go along with the sort rules,and create a sentence for the 5 words.
IR continues
Take home essay -Belles is due on Wed.-12 font double space. Don't forget a 
heading.  Use your pre-write and your Belles book for textual evidence.  Be 
sure to follow the outline and FCA's as discussed in class.

Oct. 16
Point party on Monday for classes 3-5 and 9-10. Belles movie on Monday. Period
1/2, you may bring a snack for yourself.
WTW-Spelling sort. Create sentences and 5 new words and sentences for the new
words.
IR 30 minutes 5 out of the 7 days.

Oct. 15
WTW quiz tomorrow. Study spelling, sentences, definitions.
Monday-100 point party periods 3-5 and 9/10.  Belles movie on Monday.

is open-ended format (RATS). 
*WTW-Word Sort due Wednesday.  Sentences, definitions and word sort.
*Period 1/2-Be sure to place your parent work number and cell phone on the 
front of your agenda page.  This is for emergency use.

For Wednesday WTW sort, sentences, defintions.
Vocabulary test on Belles is Thursday.  Note the change of date. You need to 
know the defintions, 
spelling of the words, and how to use the words in sentences. Study!
Tentative date for the book test on Belles will be Friday.(note the change of 
date).
Complete your revisions for the anecdote in your Writer's worskhop notebook.
