What's Happening?

Dear Parents/Guardians,
My favorite time of year has arrived! The students in Room 66 are about to read books written by my favorite children's author, Patricia Polacco. In reading, the children will listen to a read aloud, identify and explain the story elements and make thematic connections. Her stories are poignant and very moving. Students will analyze the text and complete extension activities w/each book.  Ask the children to share their favorite story with you. They will tell you, that Pink and Say pulls at my heart strings and makes me cry every year.
In math, we are exploring place value and focusing on decimals. Students can visit thinkcentral.com to explore place value using the virtual manipulatives. Students should continue to practice their math facts for speed and accuracy.
" Why did Britain tax the colonists?"  In social studies, students will learn about the road to the Revolution. Due to the complexity of the reading material, I encourage the children to use their study guide to prepare for the assessment.

Please know if questions and/or concerns, always feel free to call me at Heights 201-337-4147. I am available on Tuesday mornings at 8:20 a.m. for extra help. Occasionally, I will change the extra help day to a different day of the week. I will post any changes on my weekly hw page.
Your children continue to make me smile every day!  Thank you for sharing your most precious gifts with me.

Warmly,

Ms. Garling
