January: Jalen, and Matthew A.

New book report for January. Book report approval, please.

Happy NEW YEAR to all!!!!!!!!! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. It was
such a cold start to the new year. But, great things are happening in Second
Grade. I sent home my Student of the Week schedule. The children are very
excited. It is so much fun to have a special week. Please follow the special
snack schedule. If your child is listed under a, send snack on Thursday,
listings under b, send on Friday. Please keep it simple,BUT no Dunkin
Donuts. Please try to send your child's favorite snack. (individual pass
out items are great). Any questions, feel free to write a
note.

Again, thank you for my tissues, paper towels, and wipes. If you haven't
sent them as of this writing, please feel free to do so after the vacation
break.

Phonics: We will be working on the or as in for, oor as in poor, our as in
tour. We are still working on doubling ending letters such as in hitting,
stopping, and remembering to drop the final e as in making. Contractions are
next.We will be adding er and est to words.

Reading: This week we will continue to work on summaries.

Math: We have begun double digit subtraction. Please pLACE A STAR OVER THE
ONES TO REMIND THEM that THEy MUST BEGIN THERE. Also, they must ask
themselves if they have enough ones on top. Many children will just subtract
even if they don't have enough. Many are having difficulty with two step word
problems. Please spent time by asking the children to
show you how to do these problems. Practice is so important. Facts test this
week.

Grammar: We are still on verbs, present, now, time and past time. Keep
practicing possessives. We are also working on the future tense. Verbs of
being must be memorized.

Science: We will have a ch. 4 test on Friday, Jan. 14th.
Just a note:
Catholic school's week festivities' schedule will be sent home soon. Watch
for it so we can plan a sampling of ethnic desserts for the second grade to
try. Watch for details.
