Reader's Workshop

As fourth grade readers, we have been working on many skills and strategies to help us become strong
readers. Through the months of November and December, we have been working on informational
nonfiction. Now we will shift our focus to narrative nonfiction-specifically biographies.

We were introduced to a few new friends in our read alouds. We met Owen and Mzee, Miza, and Knut.
We have enjoyed learning about their special lives and ways in which we can help save their habitat!

Throughout the month of October, we will be focused on getting to know our characters! We finished
our second read aloud book, My Name is Maria Isabel by Alma Flor Ada.

Reading Homework:
Students are required to read for 30 minutes each night and log in their reading on the "Weekly Reading
Log". This includes weekends as well.
They will be using the log to record their reading both in school and at home.
The reading log should be signed by a parent/guardian each night and handed in on Fridays.

Reader's Notebooks are handed in once per month.
Please see ILA Homework Calendar for due dates.
